This piece has been donated to a Hibernate Recordings benefit compilation, titled "Dayalu / for Nepal" to raise money for the victims of the earthquake disaster in Nepal. This very first official HC release is appearing alongside my all-time favorite artists, such as Machinefabriek, Clem Leek, Autistici, Field Rotation, Isnaj Dui, Antonymes, Olan Mill and many others, so I couldn't be more happier to contribute to this wonderful cause.

Australian Music Prize-nominated composer Luke Howard has been described as “absolutely heavenly” (Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC Radio 6) and his music as “an ambient masterclass” (Musos’ Guide), but no words can fully capture the potency of Howard’s enthralling compositions. A pianist since childhood, Howard has scored films and performed with artists as diverse as Lior and Jeff Mills, capturing audiences with contemporary classical arrangements that curl and twist around the boundaries of a particular emotion. Though wordless, Howard’s songs perform a function unique to music as a medium – that of evoking without describing, bringing listeners to a feeling which defies articulating. 

Now signed to UK label Mercury KX (Lambert, Olafur Arnalds, Solomon Grey) and joined live by drummer and collaborator Daniel Farrugia, 2017 has Howard working across several projects: arranging the keyboard works of photographer William Eggleston, a pioneer of colour photography; a European tour beginning in the UK and ending with a performance at Germany’s legendary Elbphilharmonie; and a new record. 

Howard is one of Australia’s foremost practitioners of contemporary classical music. Having already accomplished so much and with more on the horizon, he is set to captivate audiences worldwide.

Sólfar EP was Manos’s second solo release, after Your Hand in Mine, which he recorded in Iceland with contribution of local musicians.

Today marks the 88th day of the year, same number as the keys of the piano and likeminded piano people from all over the world, fight the recent health crisis by continuing to live their lives and by celebrating their beloved instrument. Many piano shows cancelled (mine included), many composers, tuners, movers, struggle to make ends meet, but "Piano Day" is here again, to keep the spirits up, and spread a message of hope. After all, music will never be quarantined! ;)

This year I contribute with "The Treeman", my latest composition which I composed, performed & recorded only yesterday, at home. It is about this strange isolation, of not being able to move, like if we voluntarily grew roots on our feet, against our social nature. Like trees trapped away from their forest.

The Treeman (Piano Day 2020)

Italian composer and pianist Luca Longobardi represents the generation of classically trained musicians who incorporate the language of contemporary electronic music into their pieces, which are furthermore strongly connected to the multimedia arts. Born in 1976, Longobardi studied classical music in Italy and New York and went on to earn his doctorate in digital audio restoration in Rome in 2011. His works reveal a strong interaction between classical and contemporary music. The experience he has gained as a theatre musician has increased his interest in the relationship between sounds and spectacle; he has composed music for ballets and films and accompanied installations and experimental art productions (Atelier de Lumières - Paris, Carrières de Lumières - Baux-de-Provence, Kunstkraftwerk - Leipzig). At his multimedia performances and in his recordings, strongly experimental electronic music meets pure, ethereal and simple-seeming piano playing that nevertheless relays deep emotions.
