Ukrainian rapidly-rising talent Skober lands back on Metodiq, once again delivering ounces of groove through his brand new 'Feel This' EP!

The title track is up first, introducing us to a stomping, rumbling bass and some tasty looped-out vocals, which are followed by menacing chords that flow throughout the whole affair. Joey Beltram picks up from there with his own interpretation, pulling the gears back a notch, employing spacey electronics while adding uplifting snare rolls that provide the ultimate rises. On 'Take Your Chance' we get a taste of even more chord action, perfectly laced with sinister synths and discordant riffs which steadily progress, keeping the suspense level high.

Drumcode returns with its 6th installment of the internationally celebrated A-Sides series. Renowned for fostering a shared space between industry tastemakers and rising talent alike, the careful curation that goes into each volume is a fine example of why Beyer’s brand continues to go from strength to strength.

Techno titan Adam Beyer has grown Drumcode into a force to be reckoned with; the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking, functional techno and even after 20 years, Drumcode continues to find new boundaries to push, and ways to solidify its legacy as the world’s number one techno label. 

2017 is no exception, with Beyer’s imprint hosting it’s first stage at Tomorrowland, not to mention the expansion of the critically acclaimed Junction 2 where the Drumcode stage is the centrepiece and Adam plays the key role of festival director. The Drumcode phenomenon continues to grow each week, chiefly fuelled by Drumcode Radio, Adam’s radio show that’s broadcast in 57 countries via 86 stations and to a global audience of 16 million techno fans per week. 

The A-Sides series acts as a perfect vignette of Drumcode’s cutting-edge sound; functional yet inspired techno, all tracks tried and tested by Beyer himself. Vol. 6 continues this tradition with a collection of 16 multi-faceted cuts from a mixture of both emerging artists and experienced label friends. 

The heart-throbbing bass in Amelie Lens’ electrifying piece ‘In Silence’ sets the tone for the dark and dance-floor-ready energy that Vol.6 carries the whole way through. Other standouts include Mars Bill’s rough’n’ready ‘Mohave’. Pulsating and precise, ‘Mohave’ has highlighted many of Beyer’s sets recently as has Wehbba’s monster track ‘Fake’, which fans have been anticipating the release of all year. 

Label-favourites Dense & Pika also feature on ‘A-Sides’ Vol. 6 with their hard-hitting ‘Just a Beat’ and a huge track from Beyer himself who has joined forces with Enrico Sangiuliano to bring us their undeniably infectious ‘Preset Heaven’. 

With many more notable selections from the likes of Julian Jewell, Timmo, Tiger Stripes and Pig&Dan, A-Sides Vol. 6 is another impressive addition to the label’s prolific release roster and a testament to why Drumcode remains at the forefront of the electronic world.

Evolution is a fuzzy thing when it comes to electronic dance music, especially when left in the hands of certain DJ’s. From experimental to disco to pop to house and everything in between and to come, the mutation is the now and new. Known for mutations of her own, MAGDA, the Berlin resident DJ and producer, brings her influences and creations full circle in this runway soundtrack act SHE’S A DANCING MACHINE. Through over thirty tracks of classic and fresh as hell dance burners, the selection and style is reflective yet reactive to what “minimal” music and mix albums ought to create. From robotic hustles to disco house sprinkler moves and electro-tech windmills, Magda turns the years back to phuture.

Equal parts perspiration and inspiration, SHE’S A DANCING MACHINE delivers with micro-edits, custom loops and lofty effects, born out of her DJ ascension from beating the bits out of her Final Scratch in clubs. The mix has the range you’d expect with top shelf artists included such as Metro Area, Ricardo Villalobos, Marc Houle and Robert Babicz and sets up some surprises from decades past by dropping in Larry Heard and Portion Control. SHE’S A DANCING MACHINE paints the experience and attitude from a night with Magda in control at the decks. Since the turn of the millennium she’s been building a steady fan base throughout Europe, North America and Japan with a few residencies built by demand, charming us along the way with a smile. Landing 10 years after his first concept album, Wehbba’s drops his debut full-length on Drumcode, featuring collaborations with David Caretta, Thomas Gandey and Brazilian vocalist L-cio.

Following a series of globally adored EPs and inclusions within the imprint’s esteemed A-Sides compilation series, the chart-dominating São Paulo native now reflects upon his life as ‘the artist’, offering an immersive montage of stories that echo a tenacious dedication to his craft. Enlisting the talents of multi-instrumentalist Thomas Gandey, Electroclash pioneer David Carretta and fellow Brazilian L-cio, with his unparalleled flute mastery, Wehbba’s synergetic cuts span the breadth of electronic music’s sonic landscape, as he challenges the notion of genres with seasoned voices.

Birthed from the purest inspiration, the album’s 13 cuts represent a myriad of musical references close to Wehbba’s heart, running parallel with the organic sensibilities of his field recordings. An ode to eternal growth, the LP highlights a cycle of perception and projection, as Wehbba studies the morphing of genres through his own musical filter. Discussing the upcoming album, Wehbba commented:

"The musical references on these works trace back to the 90s, when I started listening to electronic music and had no judgement of what was cool - when I was totally free. So they represent, without any filter, what touched me, ranging from braindance to goa trance, from ambient to hard house, and from drum n’ bass through every single mutation of techno and house music."

As a key ambassador for Brazil’s dance music community on a global scale, Wehbba’s long-standing career has seen him affiliate with many of the industry greats on both remix and collaborative projects; testament to his flourishing reputation. Following on from the geometric-led titles of his first two albums, Straight Lines and Sharp Corners alludes to the difficult decisions and blunt shifts he has faced in his career, and their capacity to shape his identity over time. Studying the great Antoni Gaudi, Wehbba’s third LP title takes reference from his perceptive quote: "There are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature, therefore buildings must have no straight lines or sharp corners. Anything created by human beings is already in the great book of nature."

Detroit pioneer Robert Hood joins Radio Slave’s Rekids label with a fourteen track album entitled ‘Mirror Man’ this November.

A founding member of Underground Resistance alongside Mad Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, Robert Hood is one of techno’s originators and his decorated career spans three decades. The American artist and his M-Plant label laid down the blueprint for minimal techno and 1994’s ‘Minimal Nation’ on Axis was a definitive album that further cemented Hood’s reputation as one of the greats to emerge from the Motor City.

Since then, Hood has gone on to release on many of electronic music’s best labels like Tresor, Peacefrog, Music Man Records, Dekmantel and more. After a busy few years making music and touring as Floorplan alongside his daughter Lyric, Hood now joins Rekids with an album showcasing his innate knack for crafting paired back but intricate rhythms that deliver punch and soul.

Opening with the cinematic ‘Through A Looking Glass Darkly’, the album quickly flows into precise, powerful four four. There’s mesmerising cuts such as ‘Fear Not’ with its throbbing bass and spectral vocals, the twisted and off-key ‘Run Bobby, Run’, not to mention muscular tracks designed to light up dancefloors like the machine driven ‘Ignite A War’ or the robust and rumbling ‘The Cure’.
Hood also breaks things up with downtempo and mind bending interludes, including the tranquil yet spooky ‘Black Mirror’ and the beatless and murky ‘Freeze’. Each of these are aural feasts that demonstrate his vast musical pallet.

From start to finish ‘Mirror Man’ is an education in finesse from one of techno’s most heroic artists, landing on one of electronic music’s most important labels.
