E2E: What environment or context did you have in mind when recording the mix? 

Greville (@grevillegreville): My favourite place in the world is a little surf town in the south of France called Hossegor that I’ve been going to since I was little. You take the bullet train down from Paris and can’t help but zone into the powerlines whizzing by with a dreamy backdrop of endless sunflower fields and forests.  The power lines start doing a kind of wavey motion which is quite musical. Every time I’m on that train it is very emotive like I’m returning home from a long time away… that feeling and the view goes quite nicely with some music, so this is supposed to be some music for that.

E2E: Upcoming projects you're working on? any new releases on Mad Habitat?

Greville: I have my next release under Greville coming out in January which is an attempt at club music but I’m not very good at making club music so it’s not that clubby. I also have an album from a good friend coming as the fourth release which I am very happy to be involved in. I am also still working on some exciting Rimbombo parties with my special friends Adi and Nik here in Sydney.

"This particular mix blends together many of the influences that follow me around in my every day work. Often the biggest inspiration lies in very basic harmonic structures or textures that’s why i combined some of my favourite ambient pieces with a number of, partially binaural, field recordings i took in the black forest last year. I’d love this to be an inspiration and relaxation tool that sparks ideas in good and bad times alike" - Ben Lukas Boysen

Ben Lukas Boysen has made a career out of transforming unusual sounds into compelling music. His first electronic compositions at 18 were experiments with samplers and tape loops leading to an album in 2003 and the subsequent foundation of his own Berlin studio. Since, he has produced multiple albums (many under the alias HECQ), and led numerous workshops on composition and sound aesthetics, as well as creating custom sound design for films, commercials, video games and installations. Boysen’s first film score for „Restive" premiered in 2011, followed by his debut album under his own name in 2013, and the award-winning score for the Sony Playstation game, Everything, in 2016 as well as Amazon series „BEAT“ in 2018 and the score for the  film adaptation of best seller „The Collini Case“ in 2019.

We go back in time for 10 years, to a well known club in Berlin, where I celebrated the 10 Years Anniversary of my label CLR, and guess what - also played for 10 hours. Can´t believe that this is already 10 years ago really. Still kind of remember that night/day very well, especially the magic moments during the party and also especially at the end, when I played that DJ Hell track. With me on that night playing were Traversable Wormhole, @sanhajimastering Brian Sanhaji, @tommyfourseven_47 and @monoloc_official  until I finished off the night/day with my closing set. These are memories that are ingrained in my brain and I surely hope we can soon do this again. So this week it´s the fourth hour of this set. All the rest will be coming on a weekly basis, as you all know by now I guess. Being asked to provide an online three and a half hour mix of music is an amazing opportunity to really tell a story, to go places you perhaps don’t often get to go as a DJ and explore a merging of genres that you perhaps seldom get to do (especially not in a club environment). As we all know, 2020 has been a psychologically challenging year and I have not been immune. When I started to conceptualise this mix, my mind was quite far removed from any visions of a smoke-filled venue or sun-drenched festival and was, perhaps more particularly, in a reasonably difficult headspace. The music I was drawn to, that I felt reflected where I was at is included in this mix. This is not a 'traditional style' of DJ mix and it’s most certainly more of a ’slow-burn’ style as some would say, sometimes taking its time to absorb the scenery and taking a few detours along the way. I do hope people listen to this with a patient, open mind and can connect to the aural stories that are told here- the sadness, uncertainty, hope, contemplation and ultimately, the human connection and joy. In parts, I’ve attempted to juxtapose different layers, join some interesting dots and create something beautiful for everyone.
Thank you so much to the Flow folks for asking me to contribute to this excellent series and I hope we can all reflect on 2020, take the gratitude and whatever else we have individually learnt from these circumstances and be the best we can be in 2021. x

I’ve made a little ambient mix of some of my all time favourite peaceful music.

The mix was originally made for a clinical trial for people undergoing something of a reconstructive therapy. It was designed to repeatedly and slowly transition between relaxed reflection, and stimulation of new thoughts, running for a 2 hrs 30 mins session. You’ll probably hear what I mean in the structure.

It also includes some unreleased music of mine which hasn’t been heard before, alongside many of the most beautiful pieces I could find. I hope you enjoy it.

Henneberg gehört seit einer halben Ewigkeit zu unseren Lieblingen und verzauberte uns zuletzt mit seinem Sandpalast-Opening 2019 auf dem Feld der Ehre.

Here's my recent set from Elements Festival in Queensland online now for you to check out. Was great fun playing at this and just generally being back outdoors in nature again. Lets hope we can get on top of this mess soon so that we can get back to normal and enjoy more of these good times again.

This was an amazing festival given the current climate and tough world we live in right now. Hats off and well done to all the team for being able to make it happen during challenging times.
