Just Begun, the brainchild of producer and DJ John Parm, began (to pardon the pun) life with John's EP "End Of The Line" and then the track "Hurry" followed, which helped to set the precursor for what would follow next. This new VA release, aptly titled ‘A Journey into Belgian Modern Grooves’ brings together a veritable who’s who of the Belgium dance music scene, which has received many plaudits in recent times for its array of genre pushing, melodically dexterous and rhythmically on-point music makers. A chapter point if it could be said, an accumulation of all that has come before in recent times, a celebration of the fabulous work being done throughout the land which has left a long lasting mark on the wider contemporary electronic music landscape. Covering genres such as House, Broken Beat, Nu-Boogie, Disco and pretty much everything inbetween, there’s a lot of ground to cover - but this VA leaves no stone unturned, and the listener is all the better for it.

Tunes Delivery is a sub-label of Scruscru's Scruniversa and now it enters into the world with a fantastic first offering in the form of this six-track various artists EP. 'Hotmood' opens up with the feel-good disco-funk of 'Just Tonight,' Scruscru keeps it real with 'Funky Flute' which is a nice languid instrumental and Frank Virgilio up the ante with some big horn-laced grooves. The flip side then comes on strong with three more brilliantly musical grooves that brim with catchy riffs and fresh disco-infused rhythms. A great start to what is sure to be a great label.

Venice-based DJ and collector Zaffa is next up on the ever-superb Scruniversal label with a couple more delightful disco dancers. 'Trip Through The Galaxy' is a slow-motion cosmic trip that is vast in scale and high on soul thanks to the warm vocal that floats amidst funky riffs and glowing keys. Things stay just as sensuous and steamy on the flip with 'Supernova Child', another fluid and funky jam with oodles of synth magic and gentle grooves all soothing mind, body and soul. The real kicker is the vocal samples that add extra spaced-out funkiness.

Waves Within is a genre-blending triumph from Mexican producers Luca Ferrand and Selva in which they serve up sounds that evolve through deep house, broken beat, jazz, nu-disco and hip-hop. Opener 'Bona Fide' pairs dusty jazz and disco-house with a slick hip-hop switch and some superbly sunny melodies. 'Zarapes (After the Rain)' marries Mexican folk and broken beat, then 'Back To That Thang' twists jazz guitar into a genre-fluid ride and the title track evokes tropical 90s house. Closer 'Lynx' is a shapeshifting house cut with bulbous bass and sophisticated sound design that really brings it to life.
