From the composer: "Ode to the Breach" is a reflection on the chaos unleashed on January 6th and the unsettling normalcy of it all. Inspired by the concept of haywire normalcy, the piece captures the feeling of things going dangerously wrong—chaotic, out of control, and almost insane—yet repetitive and routine, as if chaos itself has become the norm. Its relentless rhythm mirrors the unsettling balance between disorder and control.

As a gay man of a generation taught to be cautious about public displays of affection, holding hands has never become routine. This piece tries to capture the tingling joy from that gesture because it’s not something to take for granted.

From the composer: "In Creeps Anger" was written amid the LA fires, as my own frustration and helplessness increased with every news alert. Watching from afar as the flames spread, I couldn’t shake the voice reminding me that we arrived here through compounding negligence. That’s what I feel in this piece—the tension rising, the urgency growing. Ultimately, I was able to process that energy and transform it into something else. That transformation became its companion piece, "Out Flows Love."

It’s a system built on precision, communication, and trust. But what happens when that system is infected by chaos? As the new presidential administration dismantles protections, Americans are left trying to hold everything together with fewer resources. Planes are crashing—literally—as uncertainty builds, and we collectively cross our fingers. This piece reflects that overwhelm, starting with driving percussion that spins up into a careful cacophony.

Admittedly, it turned out a bit darker than I first expected—because I found myself dwelling on our inevitable last moment, and never wanting him to leave this Earth. Still, beneath it all, I hear nostalgia for a life well-lived together. Love you, dear. Happy anniversary.

From the composer: "Don’t Fight the Apple" is about the pursuit of knowledge that isn’t easy to accept at first, but that ultimately brings peace. I wanted the music to feel a little uncomfortable yet intriguing, with the promise of clarity somewhere on the other side. I think of the tedious process of assembling a mandala, which I understand to symbolize the universe and the path to wisdom. I once watched monks create one, grain by grain. It required incredible patience. Then when it was complete, they let it go.
