Greetings SCR fam!  2020 set us back a bit with our shows and we sincerely apologize to keep ya'll waiting for so long but fear no more as come back at you with a new installment for 2021!   Diving into the month of February, we feel it would only be appropriate to pay homage to one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time, the late great, J Dilla.  This is the 2nd ever J Dilla Tribute show we done on SCR and we know you will enjoy this one.  Once again, thank you for your patience and as always, we appreciate your continued support. "High Output is an inside joke we have from a trip to Manila with our good friends from Do-Over Jamie and Chris.  The project itself is a collaboration between two friends from different horizons but with a same vision.  We’ve been playing together in many different cities around the world and we have a lot of friends in common all over the planet, it was just a matter of time before we’d put out something together, just because we thought it would be fun to do.  Our mix contains unexpected music, rare grooves and unreleased material…and we hope you’ll appreciate the effort and the music we put into this mix. As one the most important tastemakers Europe has to offer, and af- filiated with labels Brownswood, Blue Note, !K7 Records, Stones Throw and Jazzy Sport, this bearded early riser is consistently a couple steps ahead of your average early adopter. He doesn’t wait for the next thing to land on his lap, actively seeking it out - just take a peek at his playl- ists on Belgium’s foremost national radio station Studio Brussel which received compliments from Rough Trade Shops and Gilles Peterson.

JROCC
One of the original turntablists, J. Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic, but has done just as much on his own as in a group setting. He began DJing in the mid-’80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming, the Beat Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop, including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles. In addition to numerous mix- tapes and his own production for Stones Throw releases, J. Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib’s live shows since the early 2000’s, was the 3rd member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during the group’s live events, and collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla.

In 1973, a young Ohio pianist named Roy Meriwether prepared a trio that laid down some of the most compelling soulful Jazz, recorded live to tape. Recorded live at “The Magic Carpet” in the heart of downtown Dayton, Ohio, Nubian Lady united the talented trio of Bill Conway (double bass), Billy Jackson (drums) and Roy Meriwether (piano). Released on tiny indie label Stinger Productions, Nubian Lady never got the proper push it deserved, and remained a extremely rare (and expensive) treasure for decades. After being re-discovered by DJs and sample hunters, the album took on almost mythical status among collectors of jazz, soul, and funk.

Originally available on 12″ vinyl only, J Dilla‘s ‘The Shining EP2’ was released in 2006, complementing the legendary beat-maker’s posthumously completed final album ‘The Shining‘.

Now issued on digital formats for the first time, ‘The Shining EP2’ features a radio edit and instrumental version of the Dilla classic ‘Won’t Do’, a special extended version of ‘Love Jones’ (featuring Karriem Riggins on drums and Dontae Winslow on trumpet), plus explicit and instrumental versions of ‘Jungle Love’ featuring Guilty Simpson and MED.

A dedication to the late J Dilla, mixed by J Rocc on February 13, 2006. This was released briefly as a mixtape, and as the first episode of Stones Throw's podcast series in 2006.
