Born in Georgetown, Guyana and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Jahdan Blakkamoore has long made a name for himself as a gifted and inspiring Reggae/Dancehall/Hip Hop/Dubstep artist - both nationally and internationally. His music has been described as “Urban World Music with a message.” Jahdan’s sense of melody, superb song writing skills and ability to effortlessly cross over genres has solidified his status as a relevant artist in the music industry. Reggae and Roots fans may know him as a member of the group Noble Society or for his song “Cash Flow” on the Major Lazer project from Diplo and Switch. Jahdan is also a contributing writer and featured artist on Snoop Lion’s ‘Reincarnated’ album which received a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album of 2013. He’s featured on “Boulevard”, “Harder Times”, and lends his vocals to “Lighters Up” with Mavado and Popcaan. The single and video “For the Children” with Kabaka Pyramid was released on February 18th 2014 and is quickly gaining worldwide attention. Remixed versions of the single are also available from I Grade Records and DJ Child. A kaleidoscope of rainbow textures and rhythms disperse into the exotic soundscape of ‘Tropical’. Electronics, real folk instruments and noise-making objects feature here generously on this six-track concept album, blending together a sonic palette influenced by a rich variety of music, people and places.

My Panda Shall Fly AKA musician and visual artist Suren Seneviratne, is set to release ‘Tropical’ via Soundway Records on 4th August 2014.

The material was initially written over the course of a few months during what Seneviratne called "a beautiful burst of inspiration". Working with veteran producer Asier Leatxe Ibanez d'Opakoa (Electric Lady Studios, NYC), Seneviratne then set about disassembling all the songs and re-working them meticulously, enriching the sounds by adding a huge range of live instrumentation, before processing the audio through vintage analogue studio gear. 

Suren Seneviratne, born in Sri Lanka before settling in London in 1996, first caught the attention of the music world with a remix that featured on Pitchfork back in 2010. Since then he has released a plethora of diverse records, gaining support from the likes of Clash Magazine, The Fader, Mixmag and Dazed Digital, as well as regularly touring internationally. He has also remixed the likes of The Weeknd, Stay Positive & Little Boots as well as appearing at festivals like BBC Hackney Weekender, Outlook Croatia & Glade as well as performing at prestigious venues such as The Design Museum, Tate Modern & Barbican. 

My Panda Shall Fly has gone through many an incarnation but it was around seven years ago that music from other continents first began piquing his interest, filling his head with new sounds that eventually seeded the ideas for this project. On ‘Rainfall’ he works with the sound of tongue mallets, cymbals and synthesized bass while on ‘'Yapeyú' he manipulates the sound of pan pipes with poly-rhythmic Rhumba percussion.

With the release of ‘Tropical’, My Panda Shall Fly has yet again set himself apart as one of the most unique contemporary electronic musicians around today.

J Boog is a man of many influences. The singer of Samoan descent was born in Long Beach and raised on Compton, California. Growing up in the rough streets of Compton, the strong sense of tradition and culture that J Boog absorbed from his family was instrumental in his path to stay off the streets and begin a successful music career.
His new album, "Back Yard Boogie" is slated for release in 2011 and features some reggae giants like Richie Spice, Tarrus Riley, Fiji and Morgan Heritage, as well as Hip-Hop superstar Snoop Dogg. J Boog is excited about the future and all the amazing progress he's seen in such a short time.
At the age of four, after hearing his older sister playing the piano, he developed an interest in it and started watching her and learning about music. Soon, J was singing along to the notes &amp; melodies he heard his sister play. A while later, she brought home a Bob Marley song book. Even at this young age, J knew Bob's name and his music. Upon hearing his sister begin to play, something clicked inside J. He hasn't been the same since.

The first time J Boog sang for a crowd, he was nine years old. It was a large family reunion at a church and there were about 200 people present.
J's mother and sister insisted for him to sing Whitney Houston's "One Moment In Time" and J obliged them. Though he was nervous, it went quite well.
J Boog's music career became serious in 2005, when he caught the ear of his favorite ratios, George "Fiji" Veikoso". The two began working together immediately and J ended up moving to Hawaii in 2006 to continue developing his craft. After releasing his debut album "Hear Me Roar" in 2007, he joined the musical family Wash House Music Inc, a record label based in Hawaii and San Francisco.
A year later, in 2008, J Boog met Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage and there was an instant chemistry. Gramps was keen on working with J,
and set out to make a way. Shortly after, Gramps, J Boog and other Wash House family members were in Jamaica recording in such prestigious places as Bob Marley's "Tuff Gong" Studio, Don Corleone's "Hit Maker", Bobby Digital's "Digital B", Shaggy's "Big Yard", Sugar Minott's "Youth Man Promotion" and more.
The results are apparent when listening to Boog's new music. It is authentic Island Music and genuine Jamaican reggae at the same time. Truly a new and exciting combination. There is a natural theme to Boog's writing: love. It recurs throughout his work and never once seems contrived. When you listen, you will feel he truly knows matters of the heart.

Punkero Sonidero is the A side to the first single from Frente Cumbiero’s Mario Galeano and Will ‘Quantic’ Holland’s new all-star Colombian band Ondatrópica.

It is a raw, instrumental tune and with its analog synth bass and four-to-the-floor feel is the band's salute to the cumbia diaspora worldwide. It was one of the first tracks that the group recorded after they entered the famous Discos Fuentes studios in Medellín and so it seems fitting that it should be the first track to get cut to vinyl.

Ondatrópica brings together an all-star cast representing both the classic and modern styles of la musica Colombiana and features legendary figures (Fruko, Anibal Velasquez, Wilson Viveros, Michi Sarmiento to name a few) from Colombia’s rich musical past alongside younger Colombian musicians including members of both Mario’s band Frente Cumbeiro and Quantic’s Combo Barbaro as well as some specially invited guests.

‘I Ron Man’ is on the flip-side, a drunken take on Black Sabbath’s classic ‘Iron Man’ with a tongue-in-cheek title – ‘Ron’ being ‘Rum’ in Spanish

Ondatrópica - Punkero Sonidero

Bogota’s Meridian Brothers release their delightfully surreal and playful album ‘Deseperanza’ on 24th September on Soundway Records. Traditional instruments, electronics and distorted vocals are dragged through an array of influences to create a world that is as original as it is unclassifiable. 

Straddling the line between new and old, Meridian Brothers’ mischievous blend of Latin rhythms and psychedelic grooves is the creation of Eblis Álvarez, one of the key figures of the experimental music scene in Bogota. As with all of the Meridian Brother’s releases, every instrument on ‘Deseperanza’ was played and recorded by Eblis himself.

A true avant-garde guitar player and composer he also plays in Mario Galeano’s band Frente Cumbiero and was one of the 42 musicians involved in the recording of Ondatrópica, released this summer through Soundway Records.

Meridian Brothers started back in 1998 with Eblis experimenting with alternative ways of playing instruments and electronic media. Heavily influenced by Latin rock (Argentinian in particular) these early recordings were distributed by cassette on the underground music market in Bogota. It was in 1999, after joining Mario Galeano’s Ensamble Polifónico Vallenato that Eblis first became interested in the tropical music of Colombia and began working these new influences it in to the Meridian Brothers. 

Another key period is his development was his time spent in Denmark at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the DIEM (Danish Institute of Electronic Music). It was during this stage Eblis started using more sophisticated and intricate techniques in both electronics and signal processing. 

Eblis returned to Bogota in 2008, joining a burgeoning music scene with cumbia, salsa and currulao all being explored by a new generation of Colombian musicians. 2009’s "Meridian Brothers VI” goes deep into tropical sounds of the 60s and 70s in Colombia and integrates other influences such as highlife, Ethiopian music, surf and Peruvian and Colombian cumbia.

It was around this stage that Meridian Brothers made their first appearances as a live band with Damien Ponce (Percussion), Maria Valencia (clarinet, saxophone and synthesizers), Alejandro Forero (Keyboards), Cesar Quevedo (bass) and Eblis Alvarez (vocals, guitar and electronics). 

In 2011 "Meridian Brothers VII" was released. The sound of this album returns to Latin American rock influences as well as champeta experiments, jazz, cumbia and tropical. Distorted sounds, electronic changes in voice, obscure surf guitar and randomly changed sampled percussion all collide head on. Two tracks from this record were released on 7” by New York label Names You Can Trust in 2012. 

Which bring us to ‘Desesperanza’ (meaning hopelessness in English) Recorded in 2012 the album is dedicated exclusively to salsa and tropical music, twisting it through a dark and theatrical soundscape but never abandoning the traditional aesthetics. 

A real musical maverick, labelled a genius by his contemporaries in Colombia, Eblis Álvarez’s latest Meridian Brothers album finally gets a full, worldwide release.
