As highlighted by us in September last year, then Romanians have unwittingly formed a new blend of dance music, blending minimal techno & groove laden deep house, sewn up and exported to some of the clubbing world's hottest cities. Djs Rhadoo, Raresh and many more have helped to define a new sound amongst an overly-familiar genre - including hot export Priku. This Romanian musician and DJ shares a special 2 hour live mix with MEOKO, recorded at Bucharest's Snrs48 party, in turn delivering a live and unedited snapshot of his driving, deep and at times, subtle sound. A dynamic mix - playing with the space between notes and veering into minimal, atmospheric tapestries - Priku's focus on nuances in sound, percussive elements and thick slabs of bass running throughout shall take the MEOKO listener on a far flung, left of centre journey into a lesser known aesthetic. Following a superb debut from DJ W!ld, Cologne’s Klangkultur Schallplatten delivers another weighty 12” – ’10 Miles From Lima’ by Darius Syrossian.
Comprising two tracks of house music which balances pin sharp production with forward thinking musical content, ’10 Miles From Lima’ sees Darius in fine form.
The title track is muscular affair, with a thunderous skipping kick punching through the mix from the get-go. Angry synths and bulbous bass stabs steadily add to the body of throughout while subtle string builds and shimmering synth leads flatter the moodier elements.
B-Side, ‘Return of The Favela People’, treads a lighter path in terms of mood but continues to throw some production weight down. Betraying Syrossian’s near-pathalogical love of classic house tropes, ‘Return of The Favela People’ a track that evokes DJ Sneak, Kerri Chandler, Cajual, Henry Street and countless other luminaries while providing a respectful, modern spin.
Unafraid of rousing house music that is crafted purely for the purpose of losing yourself on the dancefloor, Syrossian is a producer doing things just as he wants and if ’10 Miles of Lima’ is anything to go on, that’s no bad thing.

British producer Max Chapman delivers three contagious cuts entitled ‘Gibby’ for his debut release on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax imprint.

When he’s not touring the world, performing across Europe, Australia, North and South America, Resonance Records founder and Beatport chart topper Max Chapman is no stranger to house music’s finest labels having released on Hot Creations, Sola, Kaluki and Relief. He now joins a slew of respected artists on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax imprint, following recent appearances by Tom Flynn, David Keno and Federico Grazzini.

Featuring the sensual vocals of Fargetta, ‘Gibby’ is built on an undulating low-end groove complete withskipping percussion, before ‘Modular’ conceives phrases of enveloping acid tones amalgamating inpowerful sub-heavy lines. ‘Alpha’ concludes the package by generating tension using long melodic buildsplunging into a robust bass stab.

The sea is calm, like the face of a child after dark night’s
unrest. I love its breathing, the movement of waves, like a
mother’s breath, are so loving that in the past they

put out the alarm, the storm, the fears of childhood
and now calm some future alarm and fears and storm
off the whole world’s coast. Yes, that was the moment I found

a word that had been spoken only once, maybe, or was never
spoken at all. All these storms are in me now, that’s
why I’m calm, I am the captain of all calmness, mother.
