Transcendence: Ambient for Sublime & Spiritual Experience

Farthest North is the result of a musical collaboration between Canada's Parhelion and Australian sound artist Zac Keiller. The idea originated while they both were treading similar thematic ground with their individual projects, mainly, that of using the far north as an artistic muse. The end result of their effort is a record that, through the prism of its authors, focuses on capturing the essence of this extreme landscape, eschewing the romanticized and instead focusing on the stark, cold immensity and volatility of a place located at the ends of the world. Teetering between the hauntingly sparse and the occasionally chaotically dense, the music attempts to mirror the landscape's primitive elements through its sonic interpretations, weaving together both a personal and impersonal narrative drawn from the geography, atmosphere and psychical character of one of the most forlorn realms known to men. Comes with a bonus DVD of a special collage of the album tracks set to abstract nordic landscapes for a uniquely immersive audio visual experience. Edition of 500 copies in 6 panel Digipack. 7 Tracks. Luminem was inspired to write a piece of piano music called Birth of Elements after listening to the audio book Living From A Place of Surrender by Michael Singer.

“There is a section of the book where Michael speaks about the process of the Big Bang, and how the first elements of the universe were initially created from plasma and went on to birth stars and the universe, which I found really fascinating. There are 92 elements (i.e. the periodic table) that make up our universe, but I had never before really reflected on how these were initially formed.”

“I then shared this piece of piano music with a diverse range of artists and asked them to do their own rework of the piece, taking inspiration from the element they most resonated with. The idea being for them to show how one base element (i.e. piano melody) can be completely transformed into a new universe (i.e. piece of music) through the lens of a different artist. Drawing a parallel between the creation of the universe and the creation of music.

“It has been a wonderful process collaborating with each of these talented artists and I have been blown away by the beautifully unique music they have created, all sparked from the one piano piece.”

IKSRE (I Keep Seeing Rainbows Everywhere) used the element of oxygen to draw inspiration for her rework. Layer upon layer of her angelic voice lifts you higher and higher, until you could be floating with the clouds. Gentle sounds of Moog synth, singing bowls and chimes create a soothing ambience, which eventually dissolves into a peaceful field recording of birds and wind at Lake Daylesford, Dja Dja Wurring Country. 

IKSRE is the solo moniker of Melbourne-based classically trained multi instrumentalist, vocalist, producer and sound healer Phoebe Dubar.
