Storied producer Patrick Chardronnet helms the latest release on Lucidflow with a diverse array of tracks backed by a Klartraum remix. Patrick barely needs an introduction but, for those catching up, his appearances include Bedrock Records, Connaisseur Recordings, Crosstown Rebels and Poker Flat. In essence, it is quite the résumé. 

Relishing the chance to flex some dub muscles across three tracks, 'Dub Of Aces' (lyrics: Aero Manyelo) offers something for everyone. The title track itself is a low key house track, taking things into smoked out territories by having the tempo of its elements. 'Traces' is a main room agitating piece of techno, rolling in like a distant storm before taking absolute command with machine driven precision. Then we are taken home with the downtempo 'Miqio', exercising some choice lofi analogue percussion before smothing the track in layers of resonance and hypnotism. 

Nadja Lind and Helmut Ebritch then step up and demonstrate their many years of production nous on their rework of 'Dub Of Aces'. Returning the favour for Patrick's remix of 'Grinsekatze' from their 2018 album 'Void Universes' their touch on 'Dub Of Aces' is deft, bringing the half time elements up to speed, but introducing percussion that is deliciously human in delivery, with every micro-fraction away from the quantized beat is a delicious morsel for the soul.

Nadja Lind - Ignore and Block (Terry Lee Brown Jr. Dub)

Dubai based DJ and producer Darko De Jan debuts on Bonzai Progressive with the superb Reflections EP. A very much established artist, this guy has seen a plethora of releases on various labels over the years. He is the resident DJ at The 27th Floor Bar at the prestigious Burj Al Arab. Previously he held a 5 year residency at the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa. All this was achieved through hard work and dedication. In 2009 he started to focus on music production where he crafted his cutting edge sound through a fusion of genres. Darko De Jan boasts a large support base around the world including the likes of Erick Morillo, Steve Angelo, Steve Lawler, Danny Howells, Felix Da Housecat, Roger Sanchez, Sasha, Digweed and Pete Tong to name just a few. Delighted to have him on board and we've no doubt his sound will grab your attention.

Darko De Jan explores the intricacies of techno with Reflections. From start to finish we are drawn into and captivated by this solid mover. Deep bubbling basses rise from the depths while a tight drum arrangement sets the rhythm loose. The break unleashes a sublime synth sequence as a playful arp dances through the sound. Top notch stuff that is not to be missed.

Silent Mayhem goes deep into progressive with a sublime effort full of beautifully crafted synths and a wonderfully rhythmic groove. A deep purring bassline wraps us up in a warmth that won't let got while stabbing synths break through the low frequencies. A high string adds tension as the layers build all around alongside cool vocals that give the track a darker character. Superb stuff that is not to be missed.

A staple element of high-profile labels such as Hivern Discs and ESP Institute, Brussels-based producer Andrea Mancini alias Cleveland (@clevelandmusicpage) has built something of an impressive reputation over the last few years, establishing a sound signature both convincingly unique and daringly game-changing, as well as setting up a distinctly fresh musical grammar that invites the listener to see under the surface of the standstill techno/house dichotomy through more complex but just as effortlessly enjoyable architectonics.

Complete with a choice duo of remixes courtesy of Beta Librae (@blibrae) and  Piezo(@piezopz), Cleveland's debut EP for Kalahari Oyster Cult sits straight in line with the recreated organic lushness and widescreen vista of his previous installments. Seemingly a straightforward broken-beat affair at first glance, 'Gamma' seamlessly slides towards sun-dazed weirdo house terrains with its dripping honey-like melange of dubbed-out synth ripples, distorted machine talk, and foot-shuffling drum work.

A further Arpanet-friendly slab of shapeless electronics, 'Ora' levitates in a zone of its own, subtly oscillating betwixt chimey oneirism and crystal-like, arpeggiated brittleness. On the flip, 'Gamma' gets a double treat. Turning the track into a proper floor-ready weapon, Pezio alternates sequences of hypnotic melodic shimmer with a stealthily squelchy but dynamic percussive momentum. Adding her trademark playful get-up-and-go whilst retaining the original's textural quirk, Brooklyn's Beta Librae explores even further the cheeky vibrancy of Cleveland's non-formulaic audio semantics to brush a vividly trippy tableau of sorts.

Dedication to details, attention to structure and a tireless pursuit of that specific and circular sound. The contextual element of ’Time Tracks’ seem to be placed in-between the most cordial music that Skudge has presented up until now, as well as bridging the singularity and adrenaline from the previous albums and EP’s.

We are invited into a palette of vivid mastery of details, brushes of percussion and narrowed basses that shatters deep. Pads and strings which acts as a foundation, evolves the music to a rigid composure.

A sonic narrative that seem to stem from motifs of the Earth, reflections of personal flair and moments remembered, dwelling on records collected. ’Ifach’ serves as an ode to the legendary UK imprint. Combining ’Time Tracks’ into a stark collection of studio sessions that features colleagues Daniel Andréasson (on Function) and Samo DJ (on Ifach).

One could argue that this is a territory proven to tick all the functional boxes, but Skudge manages to yet again display a highly personal take in a realm of conciseness.
