Home is where the heart is, and in this case that saying rings true. Though @michael-mayer-kompakt puts his love, sweat and tears into running KOMPAKT between producing music and DJing, he has managed to evade releasing anything solo on the mothership for the past 8 years (!!). There’s been no shortage of musical output in that time – be it his DJ Kicks, the ambitious collaborative full length “&”, and remixes for Metronomy, Weval, Arthur Baker and Jagwar Ma to name a few. This new decade promises a world of change, and fortunately for Michael (and all of us), his begins with the release of HIGHER on April 24th.

Italo Disco and early 90’s US Deep House (think Nu Groove, Strictly Rhythm, Nervous) are some of the foundation blocks of what motivated Michael to become a DJ and create music. He finds inspiration with the sample heavy tracks from that era – particularly the ones that used the human voice as an instrument to generate freshness, soul and warmth. To those that have seen Michael Mayer DJ will immediately recall the spirit of his sets when first hearing the title track HIGHER. A House number that is playfully serenaded by lyric-less throwback vocals. DOOT DOOT is a deeper acid tinged affair that is carried by wordless vocal melody that recalls a classic Susanne Vega song from an era gone by.

Michael has never been shy of playing a little proto-trance now and then – Take A Stand For Love adheres to the harmonic practice of the genre but changes things up thanks to a growling, gorgeous bass rhythm. Peak time pleasurable.

Belle De Lune is how we know Michael best and an apt finale that is introspective but very much dance floor driven. The track evokes an insatiable steaminess thanks to melodic bass rhythms and haunting synths. Epically lush.

London-based artist and industry mainstay Jeigo makes his debut on PETS Recordings with his deep four tracker We Are Nothing. Being as versatile as the artist's taste those four takes express and portray what Jeigo has put his mindset in over the past years, when working for Phonica, Rye Wax or Juno Records. The A2 of the EP, Beyond, offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at a musical level and basically does what the track title suggests at a deep and intimate level. With a slightly dubbish note and softly coming in vocals the track coopts its listeners as quickly as the bass shuffles its way to them and is covered by atmpospheric pads setting the basis for melancholic yet deep piece of music whose vocals burn into one's mind and never let go.

AEON is nearing its 50th release. But before we reach that milestone, we would like to share a fine record by the label boss himself, Alex Niggemann. The inspiration behind this release was found in experimenting with a vocoder. Alex explains: “society might have us all as robots if we don’t take care to be open minded - both musically and in general. That was the inspiration for the record and it was great fun to make”. A view that fits the current zeitgeist perfectly.

The ‘Technology’ vibe is inspired by late 80ies breakbeat. Once the beat is in full range with the sparkling & upclimbing synths, pictures of vintage B-boys & girls, making their acrobatic dance moves, are projected in our minds. A slight twist brings the classic Juno 6 lead synth, characterizing the main part.

And now, in their sets and performances, Jonny Sriraxa and LuciB aim to transmit the entirety of that accumulated energy through rhythms oriented towards the dance floor--evoking reflection through motion-- and flowing across a variety of genres, histories, and influences that fuse the old, new, and still-evolving.
