LUCKYandLOVE is an American music duo originally from Silverlake, California, formed in 2014 and consisting of Loren Luck (drums, synths) and April Love (vocals, keyboards, guitar). The band name was inspired by the called The Good Luck bar, where the two met in 2006.  Several mai tai's later, Loren started a music label, and played drums for April's original band, later two rented out a warehouse in DTLA, built a personal skate ramp, screen printed glow in the dark wedding posters and launched www.luckyandlove.com. Graphic designers by day, they decided to throw out ball and chain laptops forever and just play some dirty, lo-fi electronica.

The band defines their music as electro rock, dream pop, electronica and synth gaze, and others have described their sound as "electrowave, indie-tronica". According to Loren, their music has "lots of LFO, riveting arpeggiations, simutaneous solos via spacey square waves, with April's smokey vocals.  

April and Loren were inspired by artists including: Cocteau Twins, New Order, LadyTron, LeTigre, OMD, Depeche Mode, Phantogram, Washed Out, Tycho and PJ Harvey.

Their self titled debut LP was written when they moved next to a noisy construction site in Glendale California, recorded at Eagle Rock's Cave Studio with Josiah Mazzaschi (Light Fm), sessions with sound editor Morgen Stary, Comp-ny studio with Grammy winner Be Hussey (Guides) and mastered by Kevin Gray (engineer of Vangelis's Blade Runner's 2013 reissue).

Their 8 song vinyl debut record got picked up to be distributed globally with Southern Record Distributors and will be available in a record store near you on Friday, June 30th, 2017  

They currently write and record in their music studio in Echo Park, Ca. The band has released several singles (Sexy in 2015, You'll Never Know in 2015, and Venus in 2016) and their self titled LP on vinyl and is scheduled to record tracks with producer John Fryer (Nine Inch Nails, Cocteau Twins, His Name is Alive) dropping more singles later in 2017.

Look Homeward, Angel is a work derived from Cellista’s earlier album, Finding San Jose. It’s opening two bar repeated passage is taken from the opening bars of La Folia. The piece, originally written for her friend and first cross-disciplinary collaborator  the visual artist Tulio Flores is found here on Transfigurations as an expansion of that original motif. With the aid of composer Peter Colclasure, the piece is transformed into a larger chamber work that incorporates elements of minimalism, hip hop, and baroque figures into a storytelling canvas for lyricist DEM ONE and Cellista to use to comment on their home of San Jose and the Bay Area at large. 

The written work Border Crossings found within this book, fits into this piece. Written at the bequest of Cellista, philosopher Frank Seeburger uses motifs from Look Homeward, Angel and the original work to express the movement of bodies and ideas across borders. The piece is informed by Cellista’s work with the Bay area hip hop group The Coup. In 2014, she performed as a part of Classical Revolution at the hip hop group’s multimedia work Shadowbox which premiered at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The work is informed especially by The Coup’s  front man Boots Riley.

"The LA duo of Loren Luck and April Love, AKA LUCKYandLOVE, are releasing their debut LP, Lucky+Love on SRD Music on June 30th. I’m hard pressed to believe that this is the duo’s first album. The quality here in no way betrays the fact that it’s their first foray into full length album territory. In fact, this stands up there with the best work of similar acts like Ladytron (or Marnie’s solo work) and the Chromatics. What separates LUCKYandLOVE from the rest of the pack is two-fold…undeniably catchy synth work and austere vocals that still manage to have a swagger (easier said than done). 

To say that I was impressed with this album would be an understatement. LUCKYandLOVE are synthpop done right…a nod to the past with a wink toward the future. The duo obviously know the strengths and weaknesses of each other and use their talents to create a near perfect blend of pop music. I can’t recommend them any higher than I have so far. Their debut album, Lucky+Love, hits June 30th and I can’t think of a single reason why you shouldn’t own it once is comes out. " - ECHO SYNTHETIC
