030723 "remembered sighs"

Luminem was inspired to write a piece of piano music called Birth of Elements after listening to the audio book Living From A Place of Surrender by Michael Singer.

“There is a section of the book where Michael speaks about the process of the Big Bang, and how the first elements of the universe were initially created from plasma and went on to birth stars and the universe, which I found really fascinating. There are 92 elements (i.e. the periodic table) that make up our universe, but I had never before really reflected on how these were initially formed.”

Luminem then shared this piece of piano music with a diverse range of artists and asked them to do their own rework of the piece, taking inspiration from the element they most resonated with. The idea being for them to show how one base element (i.e. piano melody) can be completely transformed into a new universe (i.e. piece of music) through the lens of a different artist. Drawing a parallel between the creation of the universe and the creation of music.

Little Turtle Floods has created an experimental electronic interpretation of Birth of Elements in his Yttrium Rework. Starting with a sample of the piano melody with an old, distorted piano effect, you are then taken on an epic journey into a dreamy world. Granular, glitch effects are derived from the original piano part keeping it subtly present. A soft beat enters around the 2min mark which anchors the piece like a heartbeat, while a rich variety of instrumentation whisks you away. Just when you have lost all sense of time and space, the original piano melody creeps back in at the end, bringing you back to reality, albeit a little hazy. Little Turtle Floods is the solo-project moniker for Salvadoran-born, Melbourne-based musician/visual artist Diego Villalta.

SINERIDER Waiting In The Rain

Luminem plays from the heart to bring more light, love and harmony into the world. Inspired by composers like Erik Satie and Ludovico Einaudi, Luminem creates soundscapes to evoke feeling and reflection in the listener. 

Following on from her first four releases Back Home, Climbing, Mind Stroll and Seaside Saunter, which all reached the top 10 on Submithub’s Classical/Jazz popular chart, Luminem released her debut EP, Back Home in 2021.

The first single of her upcoming album Birth of Elements released on 17 Feb 2023. This piano only piece was inspired by the first elements that were created in the Big Bang from plasma and went on to birth stars and the universe. 

Luminem then shared this piece of piano music with a diverse range of 7 artists and asked them to do their own rework of the piece, taking inspiration from the element they most resonated with. The idea being for them to show how one base element (i.e. piano melody) can be completely transformed into a new universe (i.e. piece of music) through the lens of a different artist. Drawing a parallel between the creation of the universe and the creation of music. 

A new rework will be released every two weeks, with the full album coming out 26 May.
