Luminem’s third release Mind Stroll is quite a departure from her first two releases. With a more sombre undertone, Mind Stroll is an exploration through the recesses of one’s mind.

The left hand plays a steady ostinato throughout, giving some sense of stability, while the right hand moves from melancholic to a more urgent, slightly unsettling expression.

Featuring Phoebe Dubar on violas which bring an added depth of emotion, there is an unresolved tension that carries throughout the piece.

Mind Stroll is the third single from Luminem's debut EP Back Home which released mid 2021.

Mind Stroll

Seaside Saunter is a calming and relaxed piece with jazz elements. The piano naturally ebbs and flows throughout, echoing the gentle lapping of the ocean and seagulls in the background.

“This piece was inspired by my parents, who used to take frequent walks along the Bayside beaches together. It was written after my father was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. With so much fear and uncertainty about Dad’s future, I wanted to write something that was peaceful and comforting. I also wanted to convey a sense of appreciating the moment together, while it lasted. I dedicate this Back Home EP to my dad Lindsay Graham who took such pleasure in listening to my music, especially in his final months.”

Seaside Saunter

Luminem was inspired to write a piece of piano music called Birth of Elements after listening to the audio book Living From A Place of Surrender by Michael Singer. 

“There is a section of the book where Michael speaks about the process of the Big Bang, and how the first elements of the universe were initially created from plasma and went on to birth stars and the universe, which I found really fascinating. There are 92 elements (i.e. the periodic table) that make up our universe, but I had never before really reflected on how these were initially formed.” 

“I then shared this piece of piano music with a diverse range of artists and asked them to do their own rework of the piece, taking inspiration from the element they most resonated with. The idea being for them to show how one base element (i.e. piano melody) can be completely transformed into a new universe (i.e. piece of music) through the lens of a different artist. Drawing a parallel between the creation of the universe and the creation of music. 

“It has been a wonderful process collaborating with each of these talented artists and I have been blown away by the beautifully unique music they have created, all sparked from the one piano piece.” 

Tom Barton was inspired by the element nitrogen and uses his stunning voice to create layers of vocal harmonies over the piano melody that combine into a heavenly symphony of sounds. The piece culminates with Tom singing an incredibly powerful lyric about returning to love, which leaves your heart open as you melt into his soothing voice closing the piece. Tom Barton is an adventurous contemporary vocalist, composer and performer based in Melbourne.

Birthed by Danish Ambient producer Lauge (aka Henrik Laugesen), this textural and haunting soundscape gives you a sense of floating through space. With occasional very soft hints of the piano melody that inspired this Argon Rework, Lauge transports you to a dreamy and peaceful realm, beyond the cares of this world.

Little Turtle Floods has created an experimental electronic interpretation of Birth of Elements in his Yttrium Rework. Starting with a sample of the piano melody with an old, distorted piano effect, you are then taken on an epic journey into a dreamy world. Granular, glitch effects are derived from the original piano part keeping it subtly present. A soft beat enters around the 2min mark which anchors the piece like a heartbeat, while a rich variety of instrumentation whisks you away. Just when you have lost all sense of time and space, the original piano melody creeps back in at the end, bringing you back to reality, albeit a little hazy. Little Turtle Floods is the solo-project moniker for Salvadoran-born, Melbourne-based musician/visual artist Diego Villalta.

Luminem wrote a piece of piano music called Birth of Elements, which was inspired by the first elements that were created in the Big Bang from plasma and went on to birth stars and the universe. 

She then shared this piece of piano music with a diverse range of 7 artists and asked them to do their own rework of the piece, taking inspiration from the element they most resonated with. The idea being for them to show how one base element (i.e. piano melody) can be completely transformed into a new universe (i.e. piece of music) through the lens of a different artist. Drawing a parallel between the creation of the universe and the creation of music.

Super Magic Hats has crafted a unique take on this piece through his Copper Rework. An upbeat and playful electronic jam, which ventures far away from the original piano piece. A plethora of unexpected instruments, sounds and noises intermingle into a slightly chaotic yet well coordinated track. Each section of music has its own unique style, some flirting with drum and bass, yet magically combining perfectly. 

Super Magic Hats (aka Rob Masterton) is an Adelaide-based musician, producer and mastering engineer whose work embraces melody, noise and experimentation.

IKSRE (I Keep Seeing Rainbows Everywhere) used the element of oxygen to draw inspiration for her rework. Layer upon layer of her angelic voice lifts you higher and higher, until you could be floating with the clouds. Gentle sounds of Moog synth, singing bowls and chimes create a soothing ambience, which eventually dissolves into a peaceful field recording of birds and wind at Lake Daylesford, Dja Dja Wurring Country. 

IKSRE is the solo moniker of Melbourne-based classically trained multi instrumentalist, vocalist, producer and sound healer Phoebe Dubar.

Birth Of Elements (Oxygen Rework)

Luminem wrote a piece of piano music called Birth of Elements, which was inspired by the first elements that were created in the Big Bang from plasma and went on to birth stars and the universe. 

She then shared this piece of piano music with a diverse range of 7 artists and asked them to do their own rework of the piece, taking inspiration from the element they most resonated with. The idea being for them to show how one base element (i.e. piano melody) can be completely transformed into a new universe (i.e. piece of music) through the lens of a different artist. Drawing a parallel between the creation of the universe and the creation of music.

The Neon Rework created by Bogenschutzer is a downtempo electronic interpretation of Birth of Elements, with the original piano melody sampled and reinterpreted. Accompanied with beats and strings, it has an uplifting cinematic feel to it.

Bogenschutzer reflects “I chose the element Neon as its root meaning is ‘New’ and when you apply an electric current it glows. Perfect for a glowing electronic rework! To use the original piano theme in a rhythmical way, I chopped it up, processed it, and layered it across a sampler. The original theme became one of the instruments to play. Add strings, drums, and bass…. Neon.”

Ode To Pitch 2017

I wrote this piece as a dedication to my friends Lynn and Jaime and performed at their wedding on Sunday 5th May 2019. It was inspired by a conversation I had with Lynn about the concept of time, and how it was a reoccurring theme in their relationship.

Time_piano and vocal

Luminem plays from the heart to bring more light, love and harmony into the world. Inspired by composers like Erik Satie and Ludovico Einaudi, Luminem creates soundscapes to evoke feeling and reflection in the listener. 

Following on from her first four releases Back Home, Climbing, Mind Stroll and Seaside Saunter, which all reached the top 10 on Submithub’s Classical/Jazz popular chart, Luminem released her debut EP, Back Home in 2021.

The first single of her upcoming album Birth of Elements released on 17 Feb 2023. This piano only piece was inspired by the first elements that were created in the Big Bang from plasma and went on to birth stars and the universe.

A new rework will be released every two weeks, with the full album coming out 26 May.
