Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker” was adapted from E.T.A. Hoffman’s “the Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” which was premiered in St. Petersburg in December 1892. Interestingly, the first production was not a success, but the suite from the ballet was.  Today, it is a staple of almost all ballet companies.

This performance was captured and programmed using Notion Music software which incorporates the Vienna Instruments Symphonic Library.  The library consists of actual instruments sampled and stored digitally.

Each instrument is programmed and performed with Notion one instrument and phrase at a time until the entire orchestral score is performed. Dynamics, tempo, etc. are also tweaked in Notion and saved, then saved as a digital audio file.

Have always wanted to conduct an orchestra. Had my chance during a soloist competition in college as a freshman and made it past the first round, sadly not the second.

The next best thing to conducting an orchestra is to acquire DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) some MIDI software and sampled orchestral instruments. The sampled orchestral instruments used are from the Vienna Symphonic Library.

This time-consuming process requires the performance of each instrument and part, one by one and usually by phrase or phrases, so we're looking at a minimum orchestra example of of about 16 parts.

Whenever I get some free time, I'll devote several hours at a time to lay down and clean up tracks.  Hopefully will have more completed works as the years go by.
