The Sustain Series project continues with its second volume, 24 recycled forms created from old and unused material. Since the release of Volume 1 in November last year, more artists have come together to salvage, repurpose, restore and deconstruct each other’s pieces, or collaborate on a particular idea. What results is a growing variety of approaches and outputs, from minor embellishments to full disfigurement.

Volume 2 moves thematically, as if in four chapters, from the expressive openers, through enchanting natural-sounding pieces, before opening up to more ethereal expanses, and finally darker and more thoughtful ones. As it does, visions emerge of our natural world - its power, its beauty and its vulnerability.

That's right, there's a day all about the history and love for pianos. As a 6th edition, following the Piano Day, an annual worldwide event, created by Nils Frahm in 2015, ECU label is launching its very first Various and physical CD release with enlisted help from outstanding contemporary classical and electronic music artists, as a close team!

The 88 Notes reflects the piano in its diversity and allows artists from different styles and backgrounds to connect and celebrate the piano together. Taken from Dmitry's forthcoming 'Comprehension Of Light' album, which will be released on FatCat's 130701 imprint on October 6th.

The stunning ‘Comprehension Of Light’ marks a sizeable step forward for Dmitry. A must-hear for fans of fellow 130701 alumni Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka, the LP is Dmitry’s first ever vinyl release and is a wonderfully conceived and realised work. Where ‘Collage’ was heavily augmented with an expansive use of electronics and virtual instrumentation, the new album sees Dmitry upgrade to real strings / orchestral instrumentation with a more limited use of software. ISKRA String Quartet (The XX, Radiohead, Jóhann Jóhannsson) contributed strings. Other contributors include William Yates (Memotone), Abul Mogard and Benoit Pîoulard. It was mixed by Addi 800 (Ólafur Arnalds) and mastered by Martyn Heyne (Nils Frahm, Peter Broderick, The National and others).

In places recalling Jóhann Jóhannsson and Hauschka, in others the work of Leyland Kirby / The Caretaker, or Eduard Artemiev's score for Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker’, 'Comprehension' is a stunning album which traces a redemptive narrative arc and bears witness to a rising young talent in the field of modern composition.

The Maps They Held

My first ever all-modular live set for the June edition of Modular on the Spot - PDX. 
I wanted to try doing something more rhythmic with more upfront melodies for a change.  The main melodies are primarily Make Noise 0-coast being sequenced by Monome Ansible and being resampled in the ER-301.  The drones are all from the 4MS SWN. Textures + wurlitzer samples are coming from a 2hp Play + ER-301.  All the reverb comes from via Audio Damage EOS + Æverb modules. Pamela's New Workout from ALM/Busy Circuits is providing all of the clocks + LFOs.
This live set was recorded directly to a 4MS WAV Recorder module.
