My dear Ozorians, this is a month of rain where I live. In Portugal we say “in april, a thousands rains…”, so it’s on a wet vibe I do my selection this month. Shades of gray that perspire a hope for the sun to come out. Hope guides us toward a better day, just around the corner.

My guest mix comes from a very special lady across the ocean. From Argentina, we have Barda, part of the Shika Shika family, and a true believer in connecting the dots between organic and electronic. I can not forget a beautiful afternoon spent at my place in Lisbon exchanging vibes and music. So here are her words for the guest mix of this month…

Hypnagogia comes from the Greek words for “sleep” and “guide,” describing the transition period between wakefulness and sleep. I’ve been having a lot of hypnagogic experiences lately, due to a bad habit of sleeping, and when that happens there is music and random sounds that comes to my mind. I believe that our creativity is a synthesis of reminiscences and landscapes that we do and don’t remember in full wakefulness. Sounds from different places and sources from our lives come to be part of a unique salad dish to paint our memory, generating a whole new idea. I also think of samples, chants and timbres as memes that passes from one person to another in form of tracks, mantras or cellphone ringtones.

@okomusicofficial started making music for fun as a 15-year-old, but 2018 is when the artist’s passion developed into a progressing career. Garnering over 4 million streams in his first 18 months of releasing singles, the now 20-year-old is set for big things as he returns to his creative trek after a 5 month break of writing. Inspired by artists like ODESZA, Flume and Bonobo, OKO (aka Matt) blends modern electronic music with traditional sounds from around the world. As well as producing his own music, Matt has an entrepreneurial mindset, starting his own self-sustaining sound design business ‘Aubit’, selling sounds for other producers to use. His latest track ‘Borders’ is a mellow, ambient instrumental I personally find perfect for studying or just relaxing. Enjoy.
