The Research Networking Day provides a platform to exchange ideas and experiences for students and researchers from different European graduate and postgraduate programmes traversing the fields of audio, arts, media, design and related theoretical disciplines. A yearly initiative co-organised with Humboldt University’s Department of Musicology, the RND sought submissions from students, junior researchers and persons pursuing higher levels of research and studies to present projects and findings connected to the CTM 2018 Turmoil Theme.

CTM 2018: Research Networking Day — The Power Of Sound

Several features from the CTM Festival 2018 discourse programme were developed in the context of the “Turmoil. Features sum CTM-Diskursprogramm” seminar led by Dahlia Borsche at the Institute for Musicology and Media Studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin.

This feature about the Research Networking Day of 2018 begins with a general introduction of the discourse programme before exploring the ideas of Luise Wolf's talk on drone music. Wolf, a Berlin-based researcher, presented thoughts about the physical impact that sounds can have on the human body and mind. She enriched her presentation by playing a sample of her audio papers: lyrical considerations spoken over music in a highly aesthetic way. The example included in this presentation is based on sounds by the Haxan Cloak.

CTM 2018: Humboldt University Presentation – About The Materiality Of Sound

Below ist ein kleines Angerdorf nahe der Dobbertiner Seenlandschaft in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Es hat eine 700 Jahre alte Geschichte. Wer kennt sie, wer hört sie, wer hebt sie auf? 
Geprägt von historischen Gebäuden und Gehöften macht das Dorf noch heute die Geschichte fast verschwundener Lebensweisen sichtbar. Aber nicht nur die Idylle wohnte in Below, auch die Sagen und der Aberglaube blühten. In der Kirchenchronik des benachbarten Techentin hielt der Pastor 1899 fest: „Gleich läuft fast ganz Below nach einer Hexe“ (Fred Beckendorff 1996).
Der Audio Walk sammelt Stimmen der Gegenwart und Vergangenheit Belows und lässt Hörer_innen in ihre Geschichten eintauchen. Im Laufen und Lauschen verbinden sich die Klänge des Hörspiels mit denen der Umgebung und Belows Geschichte mit den Bildern von heute. Die Route des Audio Walks führt an alten Bauerngehöften und -stuben vorbei; sie könnten ebenso noch vor 400 Jahren ausgesehen haben. An der Feldsteinkirche endet der Audio Walk mit einer ‚Märchenstunde‘, die ebenso heimeln wie gruseln lässt.

Anleitung
Laden Sie sich die Audio Walk-Datei auf ein MP3-Abspielgerät verbunden mit Kopfhörern oder kabellosen Lautsprechern herunter. Begeben Sie sich zu den Informationstafeln gegenüber der ehemaligen Gaststätte an der Bahnhofstraße. Starten Sie die Audio Walk-Datei und lauschen Sie und spazieren Sie dabei auf der Bahnhofstraße gen Westen, die geht in den Kadower Weg über. Biegen sie dann links in die Kurze Straße ein und gehen bis zum Kirchplatz des Dorfes. Verweilen Sie hier einige Minuten mit Sagen aus Below.
