Swick is Melbourne’s own well shaken can of bubbly fizzy drink. Releasing on labels such as Mad Decent, Main Course, Enchufada, Dim Mak, Top Billin, No Brainer, Sweat It Out and more. The young producer has quickly gained a reputation for tight drums, energetic synths and catchy vocal chops.

It’s not only his original production which has been turning heads though, In 2013 he released a collaborative EP with Diplo titled “Keep it Gully” on Mad Decent as well as that he has collaborated with Major Lazer, Bot, Douster, Astronomar, Lewis Cancut, Tkay Maidza and more. He has completed remixes for the likes of Buraka Som Sistema, Savage Skulls & Douster, The Aston Shuffle, Tommie Sunshine, Peking Duk, Malente & Grandtheft to name but a few. Just recently he wrote the music for Jennifer Lopez’s latest single ‘Booty’ featuring Pitbull. So as you can probably tell, things have been busy for the Melbourne based Producer.

We also have Anton and Andre Maz aka the Death Disco DJs in full effect. Slaying massive crowds every Saturday at their Death Disco parties, we thought it was time to unleash them at Ambar.
Their Freo counterparts the Bass Attic DJs are also in the building, alongside scenester Austy - fresh from playing Circo Festival, and to top it off, 2 of Boomticks finest DNGRFLD and Philly Blunt.

I didn't understand it at the time. I fail to achieve any degree of understanding in the ensuing years, which are three in number. I presume Herb means that inherently you cannot be commercial and artistic. You cannot be commercial and quality. Lately it would appear that the long-time sonic innovators, Foreign Beggars, have been moving away from their previous dancefloor orientated output. Where the two emcee, one DJ trio applied their notorious dynamism to a plethora of electronic cuts or their fourth studio album, The Uprising which was released on EDM titan, Deadmau5’ mau5trap imprint back in 2012. With the group having already collaborated with the likes of Noisia, The Prodigy and Skrillex, the LP seemed to be a further document of Beggar’s exploration of the electronic spectrum, fusing rap and dance music, as well as elements of grime, into an energetic smorgasbord of anthems with productions from Knife Party, Kidkaneveil and 12th Planet. 

Their latest material, the heavyweight and trap fuelled, Modus EP - which was released on their new self-run imprint, Par Excellence and included contributions from Alix Perez - did maintain that kind of club aware flex but it exudes a flavour more evident in their earlier outputs (specifically the smash hit 'Contact' or even 'The Cut Deepens' from Perez' Shogun Audio release 1984 LP. Needless to say, it may not be the sound of the group re-treading 2003's defying debut Asylum Speakers, but Foreign Beggars are proving that they are still hip hop, first and foremost. 

Bringing their incendiary live show back to Room One next Friday night (20th February) alongside Newham Generals, My Nu Leng, GotSome and newcomer Amy Becker, the boys have aptly fired over a brand new exclusive mix to get us nicely hyped before the show…
