What is originality in music anymore? It's something I've struggled with as a producer and DJ for much of the past 10 years. As a producer I've pretty much given up on sounding original, but as a DJ I've always tried to find music that sounds original or at least attempts to do so. When it comes to dance floor music I've found it nearly impossible to find music that truly has an original sound to it, but I've been finding all sorts of abstract and eclectic Electronica and random tracks here and there that to me really feel like they're doing something different or going Against The Grain if you will....

When two of the worlds best electronica/downtempo producers and DJs, Bluetech and Dj Maggie respectively asked me to create a set for their streaming show Holotropic Happy Hour I knew this was the perfect opportunity to finally put together a set of these tracks! I hope you enjoy the journey!

AMANI dj set - Essential Dub part 1

I played tunes of mine that I thought were appropriate for a sunny summer afternoon. When I showed up to the stage is was a pleasant surprise to see thousands of people there at the opening ceremony for the festival.  I didn't know that ceremony was going to be on the stage I was performing at (Earth Stage, pic is shown), so this was an epic surprise. The ceremony was very powerful and moving and I ended up picking new songs of mine to start out my set about 60 seconds before I started playing music. Symbioses throws my favorite music festivals in the US so I'm deeply grateful to be involved! It's free download and the quality with the free download sounds WAY better than SoundCloud.

Desert Dwellers Live @ Lightning In A Bottle 2019

A reunion that was long overdue took place July 21st, 2019 in Downtown LA at Moontribe Sunday Vibe. It was such a sweet event bringing together the DJs from the first wave of Moontribe events in the 90s and many old school friends and family! It was one for the record books for sure! 

My set was early on coming out of pure beat less ambient music and building up to a more tech/house tempo. My goal here was a welcoming set as people were just arriving and socially connecting. I started off very slow and tribal, with a little push on the tempo each track so it didn't take too long to get groovy, but also I never wanted the set to be too heated. It was a challenging set, but I feel very satisfied with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy it too!!!

Luke’s dynamic live act includes playing a mixture of electronic and acoustic music while mixing in multiple live wind instruments and live drumming. His lifelong devotion to community dance medicine started at age 14 in 1998 when he started to DJ at northwest USA raveriffic events! He then started touring the world and releasing hundreds of songs released with a large number of the biggest labels in the world like Selador, Desert Hearts, Digital Structures, Dreaming Awake, Desert Trax, Booka Shade Music. 

This is deep piscean scorpio music, sprinkled with unusual sounds, unexpected twists, eclectic mix of global sounds, various tempos and grooves. It reflects stories of love-driven culture and open-minded ideas.  Depending on the crowd, the sets can vary from being pretty and uplifting to deep, dark, and primal, although they typically feature melodic and atmospheric textures infused with a lot of emotion.  Luke also has a functional (natural, root cause) medicine practice as this weaves so beautiful with dance and music medicine. He helps people heal frequent issues of the gut, metabolism and tiredness.
