Heavily influenced by the '90s, the music of Serge Devant recalls a time when artists like the Prodigy, Underworld, and Carl Cox ruled the dancefloor. During the 1990s, the Russian native and Music School of Saint Petersburg graduate was living in New York City, hanging out at the legendary Twilo club, falling in love with music, and deciding that DJing was his future.

Releasing off the acclaimed label Crosstown Rebels, his latest 'Always On My Mind' EP made waves. Alongside his work on Crosstown Rebels, he's released off Emerald City and Rebellion - two labels known for their ripe output of deep tech and house tunes. In terms of performances, you can catch him at El Row Sundays in Spain, featuring Marco Carola and Crazy P, and a variety of other artists.

I am lost for words on how incredible the vibe and feeling was at the Beach Club stage on Sunday afternoon at Strawberry Fields. I've been collecting a bunch of music with the intention of creating a psychedelic cosmic voodoo beach party vibe and I hope that translated into the set. 

The mighty Murray River really has a special power, its the life force & energy of Australia. I spent a lot of my childhood fishing and swimming on the banks of the river and to be given an opportunity to present my music & craftsmanship in the same environment was truly inspiring.                                                                 Special thanks to Tara, Billy & Elliot for this opportunity. 

Although we had a couple of generator issues I managed to piece together 2hrs out of the 3 of the live recordings. Enjoy

Please enjoy my set from the incredible Rainbow Serpent Festival 2019 Market Stage, this year I had the opportunity to take the sound back to my roots in hip hop, soul & funk. I’ve been producing, reworking, editing and playing alot of these tracks over the years, so I thought it was finally time to put them all together in one musical piece to enjoy.

One of the most loved names on the Australian dance music scene, Kasey Taylor made his mark in his hometown of Melbourne before John Digweed scouted him in the mid-nineties to play at his infamous Bedrock night in London. That was the catalyst for Taylor to take his sound to a global audience, leading to international exposure and a permanent move to Portugal to satiate the demands of his worldwide bookings.

Currently, he is the creative power behind no less than three record labels. That includes the highly revered Vapour Recordings, the 21-year old mainstay which is over 150 releases deep, and the off-shoot imprint eVapour8, which topped the Beatport charts with its very first release. The most recent addition to his portfolio is Lo-Fi 45, which has seen Kasey take on a mentor role to use his years of experience to identify, sign and nurture local Australian talent.

2019 is set to be a year of change for Kasey, not only is he experiencing a personal and creative renaissance, but he is initiating a complete rebrand across the board. His Vapour Recordings has just gone through a revamp which will include a new online portal to be launched late-2019. That will also coincide with an exciting release roster of new music that is already creating excitement with some of the scene’s biggest players.

Top that off with a packed bookings schedule and the future is set for one of Australia’s most popular dance music artists to introduce himself to a brand new generation of dance music connoisseurs.

For those who knew Phil K through his music will know he was a one-of-a-kind talent, a global dance music pioneer who promoted niche producers, and pushed the boundaries of electronic music through technology and raw skill. 

Those lucky enough to have had Phil in their personal life can attest that he was that rare kind of human, a man who approached everyone judgement-free, and with an open heart. He was also the type of person that treated everyone he met with love and respect, and, is if they were a good friend.
 
We were also privileged to have known Phil personally and also honoured to have him as part of the Balance Music family. Back in 2002, he compiled a release that for many is still one of the most significant entries into the Balance Series. It was a statement of the intense passion that Phil had for electronic music, and his ability to effortlessly connect dots between many shades of dance music. At the time no one fused genres like break-beats and house together, but that all changed with Phil K.

Even though it’s with great sadness that we share the news of Phil passing, the joy and the music he gave us will remain forever. 

As a tribute to the great man, we offer you Phil’s incredible Balance Series compilation album number 4 in its full glory.

Balance Selections: Tribute to Phil K

Being asked to provide an online three and a half hour mix of music is an amazing opportunity to really tell a story, to go places you perhaps don’t often get to go as a DJ and explore a merging of genres that you perhaps seldom get to do (especially not in a club environment). As we all know, 2020 has been a psychologically challenging year and I have not been immune. When I started to conceptualise this mix, my mind was quite far removed from any visions of a smoke-filled venue or sun-drenched festival and was, perhaps more particularly, in a reasonably difficult headspace. The music I was drawn to, that I felt reflected where I was at is included in this mix. This is not a 'traditional style' of DJ mix and it’s most certainly more of a ’slow-burn’ style as some would say, sometimes taking its time to absorb the scenery and taking a few detours along the way. I do hope people listen to this with a patient, open mind and can connect to the aural stories that are told here- the sadness, uncertainty, hope, contemplation and ultimately, the human connection and joy. In parts, I’ve attempted to juxtapose different layers, join some interesting dots and create something beautiful for everyone.
Thank you so much to the Flow folks for asking me to contribute to this excellent series and I hope we can all reflect on 2020, take the gratitude and whatever else we have individually learnt from these circumstances and be the best we can be in 2021. x

Here's my recent set from Elements Festival in Queensland online now for you to check out. Was great fun playing at this and just generally being back outdoors in nature again. Lets hope we can get on top of this mess soon so that we can get back to normal and enjoy more of these good times again.

This was an amazing festival given the current climate and tough world we live in right now. Hats off and well done to all the team for being able to make it happen during challenging times.
