To say that it's an honor to host a mix from this man, would be a gross understatement. The respect and love I have for not only KiSk, but his labels under the Apparel Music family tree, is unmatched in the scene. From the first time I heard this beautiful soul in music, I knew it was someone who I needed to pay close attention to. From his wildly successful label, Apparel Music, down to the artistic adventures of ManMan (the unmasked producer of Apparel Wax), I could tell that Giuseppe was extraordinary in every sense of the word. From the quality in his selections, down to the finite details in every one of his productions, I knew I was witnessing a true pioneer of sound and curation. Today I have the honor of returning the favor to the host of my first ever guest mix ❤ With every ounce of love I could muster, I present to you Selected Timbres 003 from one of my favorite humans. The only thing I respect him for more than his music, is the undeniable passion and childlike love this man shares for music and the dancefloor. Selected Timbres 004 - ScruScru

When I was planning out who to invite for my next guest on the series, there was a few names that came to mind, but inviting the duo, Kassian felt like the right choice. There was a message I received from them when I had only a few mixes on my page. They were asking when my next mix was going up because they were eager to return the support I happily provided to them. They showed so much appreciation towards me, and it gave me so much motivation to keep going. That message defines the type of guys they are; kind, humble and genuine. 

For those who might not know, I am a house head through and through, and these guys know how to produce and selecte some serious heat in that realm. From start to finish this mix is pure quality in every aspect. If you love rolling grooves, soulful vocals, deep basslines, and anything else that's good about house music.. you'll find it right here. Selected Timbres 005: Kassian

I knew at some point there would be a mix being featured on my page from Michael. From his first release, I discovered his music and fell in love with the art, and grew extremely fond of the artist. Michael Diamond is one of the best people I've had the pleasure of supporting over these last few years, and his methodology behind his music something to be respected. 

His skills and taste in music have evolved immensely since I've known him and this mix does an amazing job of showcasing that. When I approached him with the offer, he presented the idea to take you all on a journey through the time that he and I have known each other. Starting with some of his earlier Jazz house productions and finishing with complexity and chaos in the realm of Jungle/Breaks. Truly a magnificient journey I'm delighted to share with you all.

Selected Timbres 007: Michael Diamond

When looking back on my biggest influences musically, there is a consistent trend of the artists and label owners who I've learned the most from. Ludovico Schilling, or better known as Schilling, is one of those people for me. While running his label, Apparel Tronic, Ludo has been a Mecca of music discovery for me. His curation is second to none, which is why I was so happy that he was down to make a mix for the series. 

This mix is a really special one for me, as it showcases the difference between a DJ, and a digger. Whether its pushing boundaries with his own productions (KILLER btw), or giving light to the artists who are doing the same, this mix is one that I'm very proud to have on my page.

Selected Timbres 009: Moff & Tarkin

While each mix in the Selected Timbres series holds a special place in my heart, there will always be a few that stand out to me above the rest. Whether it's the selection, the mixing, or the person behind the mix, the list of favorites is inevitable. Much like the list of top mixes exist, my shortlist of dj's I want to invite has some extra special, special guests as well hehe ;)

Ulysses, or just Uly, has been one of my closest friends for nearly a decade, and holds the sole responsibility of introducing me to house music. Without the influence of my best friend, I might not have ever had the passion that the house scene has seen from me the last few years. I began my journey of support when Uly offered me a guest list spot in exchange for a ride (LOL) but that snowballed quickly into me providing promotional services for music that I love. He showed me that with a little bit of support, you can have a lasting impact on the career of an artist. 

The lasting impact of Ulysses on my interest in music is seen right here in this podcast series. Without him, there might not have ever been a Selected Timbres series. For the 11th installment to the Selected Timbres series, I have the pleasure of welcoming an artist I've been supporting for about 3 years now. With grooves that are infectious, and sounds to make you smile, Carlo has been a strong force in the House scene. With his label recently celebrating its 2nd birthday, Aterral has featured artists from all across the globe, showing just how much of an impact he's had on those around him.

As always, I try to bring on guests who not only provide beautiful music, but also those who bring positivity and good vibes to all they come in contact with. Carlo has continually been a good friend to me, so it's truly an honor to present this mix of nearly 75% unreleased music. I believe that sometimes the world moves so fast that it becomes quite difficult to keep up with the latest music. Regardless of this fact, I always find time to check out the newest bits from my latest addition to the Selected Timbres family. Hailing from Canada, Mathew Ferness is a prolific and talented producer with a strong taste for addicting grooves. With his latest release on the amazing label, Blur Records, it felt like the perfect time to include a mix from my friend in music. 

With grooves to keep your feet moving, and melodies to compliment them, I find my ears gravitating towards his sound on a regular basis. It feeds my need for that classic sound with new school skills and production quality. These reasons, among many other, made this mix a very fun one to put up! Selected Timbres 012: Mathew Ferness

I could type on for hours about the respect and admiration that is shared between myself and Caspa. We've grown as friends, and as individuals and through our entire relationship, there was always a general theme that kept showing up in our chats. It was genuine belief in the other party. Having someone in your corner who believes in you is invaluable, and that's why he and I have latched on so tightly to our friendship. 

But enough gushy stuff (lol) lets highlight this freak of a DJ real quick. DJ Caspa is one of the most highly respected Underground DJs. Full Stop. The guys a freakin legend, but that title didn't come easy, and it definitely wasn't bought through an algorithm. Since the late 80's early 90's, Caspa has been a cornerstone for the house community. His respect in the scene was earned from constant support of other artists (big inspiration for me!) and always pushing the new guys who deserved the recognition. Without Caspa, there would have never been a Selected Timbres series, and I'm not even sure I would be so heavily involved in the scene. So if you've ever received my support, you can give him a thank you too lol.

This mix has been in the works for over a year. We both knew there was going to be a guest mix from Caspa, but (as always) he wanted me to start this up on my own with my own guests that I've got in my back pocket. BUT.. here we are :) one year later and DJ Caspa is lucky number 13 in the series!

Selected Timbres 013: DJ Caspa

For the next Selected Timbres mix in the series, we take a trip around the globe over to Tel Aviv, Israel. Yet while listening to the mix my friend, Sheimus K provided, it felt like I was right at home (technically I was!  lol). When I was weighing out the different options for the next guest, I wanted to keep up the trend of quality music from quality people. Early on in my days as a curator, Sheimus and I connected through music and I felt there was something special about his approach to this wonderful art form. He treated it as just that. 

While some promoters are out to make a quick profit, his events 'Terra', and 'Bad Event' have become staples in the Israeli club scene. And although his selections are centered towards a 90's sound, Sheimus showed why there was such a strong connection between us early on. This mix showcases his versatility while providing a seamless journey into the feelings of sound from old to new. 

After I first got the mix and listened, I messaged Gil and expressed my gratitude quickly followed by admiration. This mix felt like a mix I would put together, and I LOVE IT. The variety of genres and stylistic choice is there, but the overall feelings and themes through the mix are seamless. Truly a work of art! For these reasons, Selected Timbres has a new guest mix up on the cloud! Sheimus K bringing the viiiibes.

Selected Timbres 014: Sheimus K

As we move through the year, the time comes for another addition to the Selected Timbres guest to showcase the goods. This month I had the pleasure of welcoming co-owner of D.KO Records, Flabaire. Through my exploration of the musical landscape I discovered the Parisian artist and his label and immediately fell in love. Not only his he producing top tier deep house tunes, he recently started a band called Aboukir which focuses on the more somber melodies in alternative styles (WHICH I LOVE).

Every time I've had any interaction with Flabaire, there was nothing but mutual respect and kindness shared between us, and I've really loved supporting his music and the label. With this in mind, I was super happy to have him on as a guest for my series, and as always, feel free to ask for any ID's in the comments! Happy listening :)

The next guest in the series holds a special place in my musical heart, but takes up a fair bit of room on my record shelf too. Since I first encountered Intr0beatz through The Underground Sessions Radio, it became increasingly obvious to me that I was amdist a truly talented and unique artist. Having paved his way into the scene as a DJ in Reykjavik, Iceland at a young age, Arsaell found his way into production back in 2013. Throughout this, his style shifted from hip hop to house in later years.

Intr0 takes us on a deep house trek with plenty of musicality to guide those along for the ride, showcasing just why I have such a fun time supporting his music. What I appreciate most about this mix is the groove never steps to the side.. it's always front and center. And that holds true with his productions as well, which is exactly why he takes up space on my record shelf.

Selected TImbres 016: Intr0Beatz

Another month, another addition to the Selected Timbres Family! This time around we cross the globe and head over to Australia to meet up with Cassettes For Kids to take a deep dive into his collection. While listening through to the mix, I couldn't help but get giddy while hearing all the different styles and feels as it felt much like the production journey that CFK is on. When I first heard his music on one of my favorite labels, Moment Cinetique, it was very much different than the style you hear today. Initially having a focus on the dusty and soft side of Deep House, and now with his latest EP, the energy and tempo has risen. 

With this guest mix, I was super grateful to have such a diverse selection of tunes. Although I always appreciate some good club style mixes, this felt more like a mix for the digger. And that made me smile. And I want to take a moment to say that his new track 'o4k', which is featured in the mix, is absolutely immaculate!! Boring stuff aside.. lets get to the music! Selected Timbres 017: Cassettes For Kids

With every guest that gets invited onto the series, I'm always aiming to bring on people who I've had a genuine connection with. For the last 3 years, I was helping manage the Underground Sessions Radio, which is where I had the pleasure of meeting Heat Alliance (digitally). Not only are they producing quality house music, but they're out supporting others in the scene who are doing the same. A truly selfless approach to music, which really resonates with me.

Although I'm extremely fond of Danielle, and Oscar, their music is the main reasoning behind the invite. Always selecting quality and producing top class house tunes; simple and plain. This mix is a showcase of their preferences that span across multiple genres, but a heavy focus on the house end of the spectrum. Starting with some jungle even!

Selected Timbres 018: Heat Alliance

Another month down.. another trip around the world! This time around we venture over to my good friends, Wilko and Olivier, better known as Dub Striker. With plenty of musicality and lush deep tones, Dub Striker is respected in the scene for not only their own productions, but their ability to curate. Their label, "Don't Need a Million" provides a consistent stream of quality Deep House with that classic French touch.

As with every guest, I love to invite the ones who bring more to the table outside of their musical preference. From my time managing The Underground Sessions, Dub Striker held down a monthly slot on Sunday afternoons. Through the chat room, we had the pleasure of getting to appreciate and respect one another through our love of music.

Selected Timbres 019: Dub Striker

As we've reached the milestone of 20 episodes of Selected Timbres, there hasn't felt like a better time than now to do something special, and a little bit different. I was pitched the idea from Sable Blanc to split up his mix into two different parts. The first part will be a more club oriented mix, something a little different than the typical sounds from Adrian. But with his most recent release on the infamous Nervous Records, I could tell he's been pivoting his focus while expressing himself artistically.

The first part here is full of musicality but has a nice gradual build from the start til we hit four to the floor and take off running! The second part will include a much more relaxed approach, diving into the ambient side of music. All this culminating to be the perfect reason to bring Sable Blanc into the Selected Timbres lineup; variety.

Selected Timbres 20: Sable Blanc (pt. 1)

As the final days of September approach I have the privelage to showcase a wonderfully pleasant journey through soundscapes. Sable Blanc is back with part 2 of his Selected Timbres additions, this time bringing about a sense of calm and serenity while guiding the listener through an ambient escapade.

There's so much music that is intended to uplift and energize, that I always appreciate the moments that I'm guided to a state of relaxation and rejuvenation. During this season of life, I couldn't have appreciated the timeliness of this mix any more. So much changing, but taking moments to reflect and plan is so necessary right now. This mix has really helped me with that.

As with every guest I have the pleasure of introducing, we start with a little snippet to give method to the madness. Since the beginning of the series, there has been plenty of listeners who have shown consistent support for the music that is showcased here. Matt, better known as Nonduality, has been there from the start with plenty of love and positivity in the comments section.

But it wasn't just the support that tipped the scales in his favor. In fact, it was just the tip of his musical Iceberg. With his EP for Apparel Music catching my attention, I could sense there was something in the works between us. He's got taste, and intelligence with his selection and productions, while never taking it too seriously. And that's EXACTLY what its about for me, and why he's joining the Selected Timbres series as our 21st guest.

Selected Timbres 21: Nonduality

Where to begin with this one.. To say that im excited, would be a tremendous misrepresentation of the feelings that have come with announcing my next guest for the Selected Timbres Series. Matthias Fiedler, label boss for Blaq Numbers, has been on my musical radar for roughly 5 years now, and with good reason. 

After discovering his wonderful label, I was introduced to so many amazing artists across the musical spectrum. For those who know me, understand that diversity in music stylings has been paramount in my progression in musical knowledge and appreciation. 

With these few reasons only scratching the surface as to why Matthias is showcased here, I'll finish by saying that I'm grateful to him and all those who listen for bringing new and fresh perspectives to the series! Happy listening, and feel free to shout in the comments!

Selected Timbres 22: Matthias Fiedler

Selected Timbres is back once more with another amazing mix from one of my favorites in the game. I've known Dave Platts for around 4 years now through our time together on The Underground Sessions Radio. My respect and admiration for Dave spans very far and deep as he's label boss for Moment Cinetique, and a genuinely great guy. Moment Cinetique is known for being home to deep, jazzy disco tunes from the likes of Intr0beatz, Cassettes for Kids, and Never Dull.  

One thing I really respect about Dave is his demeanor and approach to music. He truly treats it like a passion, and does things with intention and it comes from a place of true appreciation. Never rushing to put things out just to try and stay relevant, but always taking care and time to source the right artists.

Aside from his curation skills showcased in Moment Cinetique, I've always loved tuning in to a mix from Dave when I found the time. Carve out an hour to check this one out as you get ready for a night out, or while your cooking, or doing literally anything.. its just a nice collection of music to enjoy.

Selected Timbres 23: Dave Platts

The 24th installment to the Selected Timbres series has arrived in full force for your listening pleasure. I approached my next guest a few months back with excitement as I always do with artists on this series. And that excitement was immediately reciprocated by none other than Crowd Control. As labels have come and gone over the last few years, there remains a consistent few who catch my attention. 

Happiness Therapy has just celebrated their 5-year anniversary with their yearly VA compilation. But without the hard hitting roster that Crowd Control has curated over that time, it would have never made it to this special anniversary, and would have never had the impact that it has now. There has been a focus on quality over quantity from the Happiness Therapy team, which is why I asked Crowd Control to get involved.

With all the musical tidbits aside, I will always acknowledge the person behind the moniker. Every guest I invite on to the series has become more than just a random name on a soundcloud mix, but rather a connection to something bigger than all of us. A connection to people from all walks of life, and for that, I am grateful.

Each time I begin writing these descriptions, I get a big smile on my face and everything else seems to slow down a bit. Feelings like this only come from something genuine, and something real. And that is what I've always received from Denis Kazakov. While operating the label at a consistently quality, and prolific level, Denis has been in my sights for some time now. 

From their most recent release of breaks, electro from Minor Sine Project, spanning back to one of their first from 2XM with atmospheric 2-step sounds. Truly expansive with their sound, their geographical reach, and how they approach this thing called music.

Selected Timbres 25: Denis Kazakov

The Timbres train keeps on rollin and for this stop, we check in with a guest many of you know and respect. Tooli, label boss for Omena Records, and Local Talk Records has graced us with an introspective journey through music. A collection of music to "wind down and also get some positive energy"

When I reached out to Tooli, I was beyond excited to hear that he was interested. His labels have been home to some of my favorite music, and artists as well. 

This mix is a bit different than whats typical for this series, but that's why it has quickly become one that I will cherish deeply. There's no intentional promotion, or a mix for the club, but instead a journey through beautiful sounds for the sake of relaxation.

It has been quite some time since I took the reigns. But, as per usual, we take a journey through sounds and genres, styles and rhythms. From upbeat deep house, jungle, and jazz; this mix is a showcase of my daily listening patterns: Irregular. It's always been about variety for me, and this mix I felt did a pretty good job of showcasing that.

With the recent guests coming through with a collective heat wave of top class music, I knew I needed to bring the best this time around. Carefully curated, just as those before me have done so expertly. 

This series would never be what it is today without the help of so many amazing artists who have become friends over the years. I am just a music lover, but the people on this list have made it their life passion, and that's something I hold in high regard.

Selected Timbres 27: Luke Bestrom

There's people in the scene that stick out to me for various reasons. Whether it's their production style, their artwork, or just how they carry themselves in general. Jeff Swiff has managed to catch my attention, and rightfully so. With a prodution style that, for me, is textbook deep house, Jeff and his label NiceWon Recordings have showcased exactly why I was so excited to get him on board.

But as always, it's never just about the music with my guests, as I want it to be something a bit deeper. Selected Timbres 28: Jeff Swiff

Where to begin with these two... Truly some of my favorite people I've had the pleasure of knowing in life. It started back a few years with a pair of eager Dutch fellas reaching out to my partner at the Underground Sessions radio, DJ Caspa. Koen, and Sonny (Kosovo Soundsystem) wanted to take their own sound and curate a weekly set of their favorite tunes. Simple enough, but it was never treated as such by these two.

From the day we first chatted, until right now, the passion for music, and connection that was created between us, is as strong as ever. Whether were in the chat room, or a micro pub in downtown London, I will forever be greatful to share a space with these two genuine guys.

For so many reasons, Kosovo Soundsystem is my 29th guest in the series. Koen and Sonny are amazing people, and I can't wait to see how their music careers continue to progress and evolve.

Selected Timbres 29 - KOSOVO Soundsystem

The series has hit a milestone of 30 mixes with the latest addition to the Selected Timbres family. Specializing in a multitude of styles and genres, Duktus has continuously taken up space on my record shelf and hard drive. With releases on some amazing labels including BlaqNumbers and OutRun Records, I was super grateful and excited to get him on the series. 

With this mix he showcased his deep house side of his moniker as we take an audial journey to Leipzig. You'll be treated to a vinyl only mix today with the first half showcasing some of Leipzig's finest. And I think that's pretty cool. :)

You may also notice two new friends who have joined Duktus in the cover photo of this mix. My new friends were crafted and gifted to me by Duktus himself, and it really showed me what a genuine guy he was. The excitement I sensed from him when I asked to be on the series was reassurance, albeit unneccessary, that he was the right man for this milestone mix.

A Pull and Play style mix from yours truly. Hope you find this mix allows you to step away from the day to day, and fall into a carefree headspace. Mixes shouldn't have only one genre.. a vibe can be created through all BPM's and styles.. My aim was to showcase this through a curated mixtape.

Escapism

To kick start the Selected Timbre mix series, I've pulled together some of my favorite tunes that portray some of my favorite Timbres. For those who don't know, the Timbre is the characteristic quality of a sound, independent of pitch and loudness, from which its source or manner of production can be inferred. Timbre is what gives a flute, its 'flute-ness', or what helps us distinguish a Viola, from a Tuba. 

When deciding on the overall structure of the mix series, I wanted to make sure that the selections being played were special. The music selected here isn't throwaway, or easily forgotten. Music that will hold through the test of time. As the first contributor to this series, it was very important for me to bring the best, and I hope you can agree ;)
