Long-standing FUSE mainstay Rich NxT makes a long-awaited return to Hot Creations this October with the Vibewise EP. The three-tracker marks his debut solo release on the label, having featured as remixer on the imprint previously.

The A-side sets off with Roll On and the title signifies the exact nature of the track. A chuggy, groove-paced creeper, borrowing a unique vocal hook from UK hip hop protagonist Einstein. Rich’s hallmark style leaves few prisoners in its wake, as swinging bass tones open into the techy sounds of Papermill. Gritty basslines meld into whirring synth pulses before the title track brings things to a close, with stripped-back percussion residing next to loopy kick-hat combos throughout.
 
As one of FUSE’s original residents, Rich NxT played a major part in the brand’s evolution, helping take it from a free afterparty to one of the most respected event brands and labels on the planet. Elsewhere, the DJ / producer draws on his strongly identifiable sound to run two vinyl imprints, NxT Records and What NxT.

Maktub-head Satori makes a welcome return to Crosstown Rebels in January, teaming up with Lalai and Ariana Vafadari on Lalai. Inspired by the concept of letting go, the track acts as the latest precursor to his much-anticipated 2022 album. 

Satori spoke on the formation of the piece, describing how: “The song is sung by Iranian opera singer Ariana Vafadari and recorded in a 400 year old water well. Initially she wrote the lyrics for her son, for when she takes him to bed, but eventually we gave it a broader meaning. It became more of a ‘goodbye’ song, that represents the ‘letting go’ of a person or the ‘letting go’ of day into night. 

“The two extremes were my inspiration. On one side you have Ariana, the lullaby, which is very delicate and romantic. On the other hand you have the heavy electronic sounds of beats and synths. It was a big challenge to bring these worlds together but I am very happy with the result.”

An enchanting cut, Lalai showcases the transcendent sound with which Satori has become best known. It builds slowly, meandering through rustling hats and tribal-like drum patterns, whilst the dulcet tones of both vocalists shimmer softly throughout. Perfectly matched for spiritual dancefloor moments, it makes for the ideal sequel to his November single: Yellow Blue Bus.

From holding down an eighteen month residency at Heart, Ibiza to having nearly four-hundred-thousand listeners on Spotify each month, Satori is a truly worldwide artist in today’s electronic music scene. Having been championed by Damian Lazarus early on in his career, he has emerged as a must-see live act for fans from all corners of the globe. November marked the start of his USA tour, where his Maktub concept adorned some of the country’s most iconic clubbing institutions, whilst his discography speaks for itself, with a plethora of acclaimed releases on labels including Crosstown Rebels, Sol Selectas and DGTL Records to name a few.

Gareth Cole is the ambitious Brit who has been carving a name for himself as a purveyor of fine house and techno both as a producer and DJ. 

Here he signs up to Steve Bug’s Sublease Music for three slick and impactful slices of deep, techy house. First up is Signal, a low-slung groover with hypnoic keys, and a thick, rounded bottom end driving the track forward. 

On Courage, the energy is amped somewhat, with plenty of space thanks to the dubby, minimal production. 

Gareth notes “I was very inspired by music and DJ sets from Guy J - there is this sort of hypnotic groove which locks you into the vibe and music. I designed a really nice lead stab on Sylenth which is my go-to synth and it repeats during the majority of the tune and then other elements play around it to keep it interesting”. 

The final track is On The Edge, delving deep into Cole’s roots in techno - slowly building on the groove with extra elements to create a hypnotic, techy atmosphere sure to set dancefloors alight this summer.

Maurice Fulton is responsible for some of the zaniest electronic dance music around (the guy's married to Mu forchristsakes), but what makes him so on point in his Syclops guise is that he manages to balance his skewed sensibilities with damn good grooves. 'Where's Jason's K' is definitely the most blunt Syclops release so far because it's basically an inspired and stupidly addictive bassline for most of the track's six and a bit minutes. In the middle there's a crescendo of floaty effects, weird shit and an electronic organ all reminiscent of ‘70s funk wig-outs, but 'K' is all about willfully being hammered by bassline.
