OFF Recordings has been the home of many outstanding artistic collaborations, but we can't express how inmensely excited we are to introduce this new production team formed by two of the recently most successful artists in the game.  

We welcome Stefano Ritteri, who is making his debut on the label but who’s already a name that doesn´t need a lot of introduction with his huge releases on Defected, Viva, Pets and Exploited. This time he’s joined by one of the pivotal acts of the OFF family, Robosonic. Little can be added to this duo's catalogue of hits, including “Worst Love” and “The Edge” on OFF, as well as their recent chart topping collaboration with the Adana Twins on 2DIY4, "La Fique"... 

The all-star team brings us the single "She Was On My Mind", a deep percussive groover that builds up the tension throughout, mixed with powerful synths and melodic vocal work: a feel-good track that keeps the flow going while providing a classic soulful feeling. 

OFF is truly proud to be showcasing such talent to the world, another one meant to be a discerning dancefloor essential.

Half generic sporting position, half incorrectly spelled American name you rarely hear in the UK (see also Troy and Chad), Leftwing & Kody have risen above these humble beginnings to become a youthful force. 

With releases for the likes of OFF Recordings, Anjunadeep (check 'Deep In' on  Anjunadeep 05 mixed by James Grant & Jody Wisternoff) and Exploited, they're as adept at swinging garage as they are with handling a floor wrecking vocal – the reason the likes of Azari & III and Romanthony have been lined up for remixes. Currently moving in what they call a 'darker' direction, their podcast features like-minded UK producers such as Jordan Peak and Darius Syrossian alongside Deetron and Curses.

CitySeven open the new vista of 2014 with a forward-looking track from label luminary Jimmy V, moving on from his debut album “Storm Before Dawn”, and vocalist Liz Cass, fresh from her collaboration with John Monkman on “Follow Me” for Get Physical.

In “Lose My Mind”, Jimmy V sends us on a mood odyssey, as the carefree cadences of a sunset chiringuito morph into the brawny beats and restless excitement of midnight in the back-room, whilst Liz Cass breathes and broods on libertinism and lost love.

A panorama of remixes extends their vision. Taking command of the console, Aidan Lavelle, of Rebellion and Crosstown Rebels, sets the floor flashing with a period-production of pleasure-seeking proto-house, then Della Zouch responds by leaning the track down to bare-boned spartan bass. Finally, before the lights go on, Radi & Keith project a binary vision of a sci-fi future of bits and beats within the machine.

For our second headline release of the year, CitySeven presents Pete Bones, the éminence grise of the underground whose career reads like the story of British house music.
In “House Unsquared”, Pete Bones disrupts the tense geometry and angular beats of tech-house with a driving Schifrin-esque funk bass-line and the uncaged rhythms and savage cries of an electronic wilderness.
In the remixes, Dubb Disko’s fractalated intro resolves into a deep and urgent dance-floor draw, then in Radi & Keith’s uncanny nocturnalism, sinister sirens echo over fitfully shifting harmonies.
Finally, Pete’s own “Curtly” mix adds jungle percussion to the equation for a feral and fervent send-off.

CitySeven’s autumn offering is a soundtrack for the skies of the lengthening nights, as tech whiz Drogo executes a sonic sci-fi fly-by of the Martian moons, “Phobos and Deimos”.

In the encounter with “Phobos”, Drogo’s instrument array reveals a starkly pitted beatscape, the precise periodicity of the percussion and bareness of the bass perturbed and disturbed by background noise, irregular oscillations and sudden transmission bursts.

“Deimos” boosts us into an uptempo orbit, the gliding and looping bass figure setting off chirping satellite chatter and glittering starlight harmonies.

CitySeven’s science officer Dubb Disko transits the dark side with his remix of “Phobos”. Flattened frequencies, fragmentary signals, metallic melodies, sombre vocalisations and propulsive bass feed back with ever-increasing momentum till they converge in a mighty cosmic counterpoint.

In another visit to Phobos, Several Definitions (Keith, formerly of “Radi and Keith”) brings some brass-robot retro to the narrative, with a relentless steam-powered rhythmic contraption that drives dancefloor sirens and horns in automated intonations of the harmonic series.

Colleen, aka Cécile Schott, is really one of those artists where if you know, you know. Her run of albums from 2003-2007, mostly on The Leaf Label presented an exquisite set of dream-worlds, where you could easily drift away on her loops of cellos, bells, flutes and musical boxes. But then a six-year hiatus from the music world made it almost seem like it HAD been a dream. However, she returned with The Weighing of the Heart in 2013, easily up there with her very best work - and now, teamed up with Thrill Jockey, she's showing that she's stronger than ever. This is the first track from her Captain of None album coming on April 7th, and damn, it's beautiful.

Continuing to set a new standard of technical excellence in Deep House, the relentless CitySeven reaches its ninth release with an exceptional and eclectic EP from founding collaborator Several Definitions (formerly Keith of “Radi and Keith”), who is also starring on the Knee Deep label after being courted by Hot Since 82.


In the title-track, “Handle Me”, disco percussion bubbles above respirator gasps and submarine bass as deep-sea harmonic currents shift and subside and soulful cries well up from an aquatic abyss.

Perhaps the most dance-orientated of the set, “La Grâce” belies its name with agitated arpeggios, sinister synth figures, demonic utterances and a brutishly insistent beat.

“In My Head” gives us a glimpse of the artist’s process, playing like a soundtrack to the composition of a soundtrack as it drifts from upbeat New Romantic rhythms into a hazy Blade Runner-esque future soundscape.

As a fittingly multifaceted coda, “To The End” sets electronic allusions to the energetic claps and vigorous brass ostinati of funk against mellow uplifting strings and determinedly downbeat and detuned vocal blues.

Oh boy, that came around quick!  One day we’re faxing giant penises to magazines and the next we’ve got kids and are on our 200th single release.  It’s been 22 years since things kicked off with Salt City Orchestra’s The Book and in the intervening years we’ve hopefully carved out our little corner in the pantheon of house music.  We’ve lived by our first “hidden” message on PAP001 “Look Forward Not Back” by keeping on keeping on but this is a chance to buy ourselves a pint.

PAP200 is three tracks from friends new and old that originally came out on a limited edition 12” Record Store Day release.  Crazy P(enis) return to the fold for the first time since 2003 and it’s good to have them back.  Last Knockers has their trademark stripped back electronic funk with Danielle Moore adding the disco fizz. There’s plenty of wonk and roll as it builds over 10 glorious minutes.

When Steve Cobby was asked what Paper meant to him he said “northern musical heritage” and we’ll take that.  He has been knocking it out the park since the early 90s and this is his debut release for the label.  Boule De Suif is a trip through funk and soul that is timeless but of it’s time; it’s what Herbie would sound like if he had grown up in Hull.

Finally Flash Atkins goes down a more conventional route with his trademark layered sound.  What starts as a straight forward deep house track evolves with trippy vocals and a chorus that brings the hairs up on the back of your neck.  Mixmag liked it so much they gave it their Disco Single of the Month.
