Description: My remix/bootleg of Nils Frahm's Ode, one of my favourites tracks fromm his album 'Solo'.

The deep, immersive echo chamber that sits at the centre of DeepChord’s signature work with Echospace may appear inspired by the genre-defining work of first-wave dub-technoists that appeared on the Chain Reaction label in the mid to late 90s. But it’s also work that’s quintessentially building upon the Detroit scene where it was born, and that divine marriage of roots and vision makes the work of Rod Modell and Steve Hitchell at once so highly considered, so timeless, and so pertinent. The distinguishing feature of the duo’s sound is its ability and willingness to stand still; whereas much of dub techno attempts to propel the listener forward in either a lover’s rock groove or the cushioned reverb of a driving beat, DeepChord’s synth-driven analog warmth trades not only in static ambience but also propulsive design. Their set at Métropolis in 2011 was nothing short of enveloping and transcendent.

Following on from their Record Store Day ‘Looped EP’ release, which featured remixes by Dauwd and Lubomyr Melnyk, Kiasmos – made up of Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen – return with three new tracks and a remix by Tale Of Us.

Recorded in various locations including Reykjavík and Berlin, the EP opens with ‘Drawn’, a four-minute percussion fuelled track with gentle piano motifs. ‘Gaunt’ features the addition of ambient synths and a drum loop, underpinned by slow-moving chords. Title track ‘Swept’ which the duo offered to fans as a surprise gift in form of a free download card at previous show dates, showcases a more club-oriented beat structure alongside Kiasmos’ signature emotive instrumentation. 
 
Closing the EP is a remix from Berlin-based duo Tale of Us who met Kiasmos in London and twist the original downbeat title track
into their distinctively dark aesthetic. Pulsating hats and a driving bass loop add pace as the track builds toward an epic breakdown.

The ‘Swept EP’ will be released on 12”/DL via Erased Tapes on November 20th, 2015.

Simple low slung techno. Made in 60 minutes flat, from opening Ableton Live to hitting render. Limitations can be great. Always fun focusing on what you can do, rather than what you could do. 

I will spend sometime over the next week, turning this into a finished track, but in the mean time it yours to download.

August 2016 Promo Mix

I have been wanting to try my hand at remixing this classic for many years, I have had a few false starts and unsuccessful attempts that didn't culminate in anything interesting, but for some reason, it all came together this morning. Maybe it was the rain or the lovely fresh Kianyagi coffee beans I picked up yesterday, but more than likely I think it was the inspiration and huge collection of ideas I took away from Berlin and Loop 2016. So here is my interpretation of  Booka Shades In White Rooms.
