I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

Eric Galaviz and Brian Varga, better known as the DJ / Producer duo Hipp-E and Halo, joined forces 15 years ago after realizing they shared many common musical interests. The H Foundation was born.  Here and now in 2014 they have just released their album ‘Passage’, a collection of their finest moments from 1999-2004, through DJ Sneak’s imprint Magnetic Recordings.  And to mark the release they’ve put together a brand new mix for the Gangstercast. 

The guys explain, “This mix is a small taste of some of the tracks and artists that we are into and what you would hear in our DJ sets from begging to end. We carefully choose the tracks in this mix so that people could get a feel and taste of what you would hear if you came to the club to see us play.”

H Foundations’ dedication to House music has always been evident and of their relationship with the music they simply state, “House music has a felling that touches your soul that moves you.”  About the House Gangster music they add they view it as, “Dirty House Music infused with a taste of Chicago. DJ Sneak is a brother to us, he has been in the game for a long time and has inspired so many artist there's not a lot of Old School House heads doing what he's doing and we have so much respect for him.

Back in the '80s, WBMX radio here in Chicago used to play a LOT of mixes: there'd be the regular "Friday Night Live - Ain't No Jive Chicago Dance Party"; the standard Saturday night mixes from 10:00 - 4:00; the after work or rush hour mix; and my fav, "The Hot Lunch Mix". 

Coming in at noon every weekday, it was a nice little bit of heat to break up my monotony at Walther Lutheran High School. I used to have a lunch period followed by study hall right around that time of the day, so I'd sneak and listen to it while either eating or pretending to do homework. The mixes were always friendly (since it WAS broadcast radio, there was no swearing). And they were usually more on the song and groovy tip than some of the more jacking or tracky stuff played at night and on the weekends. 

Using that as my focus, I decided to go on a disco & classics trip, which I think will work well if you want to listen to it while eating lunch at your desk, walking to get some grub, or just sitting on a bench and watching the rest of the world do its thing.
