Yamaneko Boiler Room London DJ Set

Sometime in February 2025, the Warning crew (@warningberlin) set sail to international waters, setting course directly to the infamous community space coppi, floating freely in the vast ocean of the berlin scene.  No storm, no flu-wave, no BVG-strike could stop these fierce electronic buccaneers from taking over the coppi studio for a night.  Bringing with them their treasured black, shiny disks, a mix of old crew members and some newfound friends showcased their very individual styles, while all being connected by their deep passion for music.

Weathered Warning member @philipp-otterbach on opening duties didn’t disappoint: Starting with some slower experimental sounds, undulating between murky tracks as dark as the night’s ocean and ones evoking images of flittering sunrays, Philipp’s set got heavier and groovier from the second half. Effortlessly switching between broken beats and deeper tech excursions, his versed psychedelic style spoke for itself.

Contributing our latest episode is London’s ANNX, a regular figure within the city’s cutting-edge undercurrent whose many contributions include co-curation of the Whomp, Perspectives, and once-shrouded Magick events, and a residency at the beloved Above Below festival. Anna’s tireless dedication to the scene goes hand-in-hand with her unmistakable talent behind the decks, as evidenced by an impressive repertoire of mixes and set recordings, and which I was fortunate enough to witness first-hand last summer in the Chilterns. Here Anna demonstrates her well-honed craft over the course of two meticulously plotted hours, diving seamlessly into manifold forms of deep, heavy psychedelia before emerging in a wave of euphoric bliss. A passionate music lover and record collector for over half his life, Joan Gila is the curator of HOC Radio and the label known as red edge with releases by ABSIS and Bastien. Alongside Javi and his friend Jordi, with whom he runs the Binomi project, he co-hosts MostRadio from Mostra Festival.

This set was recorded live at Corsica Studios on Friday the 8th of February 2019. I was playing for Make Me, from 23.00 - 00.30, sat on a swivel stool in the booth of room one. 

It was a new experience to play this kind of music on a club sound system as powerful as Corsica’s, and in the same booth I have previously only played ravey techno in. Thanks to Make Me for the opportunity once again to put a new spin on how we can use club spaces, and what types of music we can listen to in them together. Starting a night with an ambient set feels like a shared moment of calm for everyone who comes down early, a chance to chat with friends and wash away the feelings of the day gone by before the dance music begins later on.

As with all my Deep Mind Music mixes, this set is me pouring out my soul in musical form. I played some all time favourite tracks in this one too, including ‘Liquid Sky’ by System 7 at the beginning, a deep and longing track that speaks to the very core of my being. And the final track on this mix, ‘Welcome To The New Day’ by Commodity Place, is another very special track to me. I feel like the title really captures it’s energy, it’s saying be present, be joyous, for there is so much to be thankful for. It feels like cruising down a highway at sunset with the roof down.
