Astral Industries has been quietly shaping a corner of music that feels uniquely its own for over ten years. Based in London, the label has become a refuge for sounds that don't play by the rules—drone, ambient, dub, deep techno—all delivered with a sense of purpose and personality that's hard to find elsewhere. At the center of it all is Ario, the visionary behind the label’s distinct identity. To start 2025 in style, we're excited to share his mix as part of our "Delayed with…" series.

Ario's approach to music isn't about the obvious or the easy. His selections often veer into the experimental, finding connections in places others might overlook. Whether it's a drone, techno, or something that sits in the cracks between genres, he has a way of uncovering sounds that feel fresh and unpredictable. That instinct has made him a fixture at festivals like Paral.lel, Mostra, Moment, and La Nature just to name a few, where his sets are as much about exploration as they are about enjoyment.

This mix is a live recording of Ario’s set at La Nature Festival, nestled deep in a Belgian forest. Over two hours in the Hypnose Room, he built something that felt both strange and welcoming—layers of murk and mystery balanced by flashes of warmth and light. Tracks rise and fall like moments in a story, some tense and introspective, others breaking through with fractured grooves or shimmering synths that catch you off guard. What makes this mix so compelling is its sense of space—it feels expansive and intimate at the same time. There's a timeless quality to it as if it could belong as much to the future as the past. But it's never pretentious or overthought. Ario lets the music breathe, letting you take from it what you will.

Whether you're in the thick of the Hypnose Room or just sitting at home with a pair of good headphones, this set has a way of pulling you in if you let it. Hats off to Ario and La Nature Festival for creating something that feels real and alive, a reminder that originality still matters.

For several months now, I have been taking the time to explore Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ book Women Who Run with the Wolves. She specifically discusses the notion of Rio Abajo Rio, the River beneath the river, which echoes the depths of the unconscious and the instinctive wisdom that flows within us, even when we are unaware of it. She uses this metaphor to illustrate the primal life force and feminine intuition that exist beneath the surface of our daily lives.
This underground river symbolizes natural instincts, ancestral knowledge, and creativity that continue to flow within us, even when they are sometimes stifled by social or personal pressures. A book that is both inspiring and unsettling, as it deeply resonates with my life’s quest today.

This set is a search for reconnection with Rio Abajo Rio, a journey toward my purest and deepest essence—my inner power—in order to reclaim my intuitive nature.

From a purely aesthetic perspective, this set is woven with Ambient, Techno, Breaks, Abstract, and D’n’B sounds, all tied together by a percussive and organic universe.

"I have been immersed in music since I was a child. My parents were involved in the Hard Rock scene. On my mother’s side, part of my family is from Brittany, so Breton music also played a big role in my childhood.

When I was old enough to go out, I dived into so many different scenes—Tribe, Hardcore, and Trance through Raves and Free Parties, Techno to House, Dubstep to D’n’B through clubs and festivals, Dub, Experimental Music, Noise, Ambient, Punk through alternative spaces and squats. This opened countless doors for me, leading to interconnected musical worlds.

Later, my job at Macadam also broadened my musical perspective, thanks to its artistic direction. That's why I generally need to move between different musical styles. My musical approach is entirely based on my feelings, emotions, moods, and, of course, the connection with the crowd when I play.

This is also why I love b2b sets—they push me out of my comfort zone and allow me to discover even more.

Mariachiara Troianiello, the Italian sound artist behind the moniker Katatonic Silentio, works at the crossroads of electronic music, performing arts and sound studies. Active as a DJ for more than 15 years, her sets adopt multiple forms, fluctuating between an analogue past and a technological, fast-paced future. At times, her sets focus on pure abstraction, consisting of ethereal soundscapes that seek to transcend the tangible through a mix of musique concrète, world, spoken word, ambient or dub. At others, they come across as concrete and club-oriented, crossing techno, broken beats or drum'n'bass.

The next Deep Mind Music comes from one of my dearest friends, and greatest inspirations - hems

hems and I have a special connection, we both love to adventure through musical lands strange and beguiling, evocative and unusual, and have spent many hours together digging through obscure backcatalogs or making our own noises experimenting with hems’ many synthesisers in his studio in London 🧡

hems plays music like no one else I know, he has a magic touch and deep sensitivity for representing all shades of human existence. From the sublime to the transcendent, the unsettling to the hilarious, hems’ sets takes listeners to the beyond and then further still.

I first invited hems to make a mix many years ago, so I am very happy to finally welcome an entry from him. This recording is the first 2.5 hours of an all-night 8 hour set hems played at an intimate private gathering in Mexico City in March of this year.

In this recording hems coaxes us to drift inwards, to enter into an unusual landscape, to open up to all the elements of sound, contrasting pre-Hispanic music with vintage synthesizer tracks and much more.  

Listening to hems’ sets over the years has expanded my mind towards new possibilities, his selections and genius touch for programming evoking many deep epiphanies and insights. This mix is brimming with vitality and life, I hope you enjoy this kaleidoscopic voyage into the mystical 🌿 ~
