Call it a Jekyll-Hyde syndrome. London-based artist Fábel makes his highly anticipated return to Haunt with a five-track EP entitled Fábel vs Mr. Cotton, a dialogue between his two musical personalities. While the familiar soft, soulful Fábel essence remains present in the opening tracks’ twinkling melodies, hollow voices, and languid jazzy instrumentals, the producer’s darker side takes over by “Mr. Cotton’s Point of View.” Spectral dub infusions and doses of glitch begin to creep in, erupting in full force in the last track, “Massive Disruption.” The record’s narrative is a conversation, with the two sounds both clashing and confirming in equal measure.

Inspired by his new-found comfort with a so-called two-voice project, Fábel takes dark experimentation head on with this release. His background as a producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist plays in his favour as he treads the boundaries between jazz, IDM, glitch, dub, and electronica.
