Gears & Rust is the story of a transformation — both sonically and spiritually. The debut album from Leeds-based producer and songwriter S.O.B.A starts in serenity and ends in fire, guiding listeners through a journey of clarity, conflict, and catharsis.

The first half breathes with liquid drum & bass textures, soft harmonies, mellow rap verses, and atmospheric storytelling. Tracks like “Old Pine Woods” and “Southern Moon” feel like morning mist and memory — warm, reflective, and rooted in nature and nostalgia. Here, the lyrics float between moments of love, recovery, and inner peace, woven through vinyl crackle, field recordings, and emotive melodies.

But as the album progresses, the tone shifts. “Babylon Tricks” signals a pivot: the drums hit harder, the message grows sharper, and S.O.B.A’s pen turns militant. From there, Gears & Rust descends into the rave — fusing jump-up chaos, dubstep growls, and layered wordplay that explores addiction, resistance, ambition, and rage.
