Philipp Priebe’s Stólar revisits some of this year’s select cuts on the label with remixes from Smallville/Mule Musiq artist Jacques Bon & Drux and Freund Der Familie bosses FDF, as well as two fresh originals from Priebe himself.

The past few years have seen Philipp Priebe cement his Stólar imprint’s sound as one of charm, sophistication and intricacy in the world of contemporary deep house, predominantly acting as a platform for his own material alongside remixes from some of his favourite acts. Here the story continues with this exact format, bringing in two new remixes for interpretations of recent material as well as two new originals.

Leading the release is the Jacques Bon & Drux Remix of ‘Sunset Memories’, the Paris based duo twist the original into a hazy, subtly nuanced six and a half minutes with tension building pads and resonant keys atop the originals robust bass hook and metallic percussion. FDF’s ‘Dub Reshape’ of ‘Another Insane Sky Tonight’ follows, as the name would suggest and tapping into the pairs signature style, we’re treated to swaying sub bass tones, cavernous reverberations and spiralling echoes in true dub fashion.

The original mix of ‘Sunset Memories’ is up next, laying down hypnotic keys, airy atmospheric swells and choppy bass throughout before ‘Zero Four Zero Eight’ rounds out the release with eerie bell chimes, ethereal resonant swells and bumpy drums.

After Jose Manuel’s highly acclaimed album Janara on Optimo Music and the curation of the V.A. compilation Milagros Del Ritmo, he returns with his new EP Alchemy, the second vinyl release on Archaic Future Sounds.

It’s a queer psychedelic trip through electronic reinterpretations of tropical ritual chimes from South East and Southern Asia with a touch of Tribal and Acid House. Chugging beats seasoned with percussive flutes are enveloped by warm synthesizer sounds, heavy basslines and exotic melodies.

The antithesis is the trippy remix produced by Front De Cadeaux, who released on Antinote, a dub influenced future classic of deconstructed club music and as a wrong-speeder you can always choose your own tempo! Influenced by 90s Afro Cosmic Music, magic mushrooms and LSD it’s perfect for all passionate DJs, clubs and dancers!

The second release of E&X Records comes from renowned Welsh artist Harrison Webber, better known under his artist moniker Harrison BDP, who boasts releases on formidable labels like Haws, Phonica, Happiness Therapy, Berg Audio and more. Therefore his Far Away EP, which comes with three original tracks and an Alex Neri remix, on SY's E&X seamingly fits in his discography. The B1, Conflict Within, depicts Harrison's preference for House Music with a progressive-touch and adds another musical nuance or facet of the artist to the EP. After The EP's opener, the title track, and the Alex Neri remix, which both capture an almost Balearic vibe and add a club-note to it, Conflict Within may take the before-mentioned Progressive route but lets those peak-time moments behind. Conflict Within grooves through those late night or early morning dancefloor vibes with its irresistible bass line and the mental chords sequences making dancers and listeners feel like they walk on a proggy cloud.

Road To Yuzu

Road To Yuzu originates from a long drive to the east of Holland. I was on my way to a place called Yuzu after a long day in the studio, where I was stuck in an old flow and sound. I found myself re-evaluating this flow and it felt like I was ready for something new. This drive somewhat changed the sound I wanted to focus on, giving me new energy and inspiration. Road to Yuzu, a melancholic driven breakbeat track, represents this turning point. 


Phasing In

The acid elements characterize the over-rushed society we live in, where we forget to stand still at times. The kalimba percussion and synthesizers represents the opposite; feeling grounded and conscious. With Phasing in, I tried to combine these feelings to express the contradiction of the two.


Anxious World

The last track of the EP starts with dreamy synths slowly evolving into a heavy leading bass with breakbeat elements. The short didgeridoo cuts and the use of the old Yamaha SY22 synthesizer rounded up the track.


Alteration EP 

With the three tracks taken together I tried to give an output on all different thoughts going on in the studio while making music. I’m always in search to keep the balance between dancefloor movement and calmness. It’s a process where everything is subject to change and alteration.
