Acid Kidz’ gets a twisted rework by Qilla’s A&R and well known producer, SHFT. His approach, although unconventional, offers a more dance-floor centric version taking elements from the original and giving it a whole new interpretation.

Premiere: Kohra - Vedanta [Qilla Records]

'Kohra returns on his own imprint, Qilla Records, for a fantastic first release of the year, with remixes from Kotelett & Zadak, SHFT and FILM.

‘Vedanta’ literally translates to 'the end of the vedas’, an ancient Indian philosophy with various schools of thought based around duality and non-duality. This track takes a hypnotic and melodic direction that is very much part of Kohra’s signature style.

Berlin-based Kotelett & Zadak are up first on remix duties, tackling ‘Vedanta’. The duo are regulars at Katerblau and have previously released on key labels like Poker Flat and Exploited Ghetto. They give the original a stripped-down sound that is spooky & mysterious, trapping you in their alluring late night house atmosphere.

This is another fresh release from Qilla, a label that continues to push the envelope.'

VC-118A is a firm favourite with electro’s most hardcore fans. The Dutchman - who also works as Mohlao and Multicast Dynamics - covers every shade from moody and insular to purely for the floor. He’s a regular on the most reliable labels in the scene including Delsin (where he just released his new album 'Inside'), Frustrated Funk and Radio Matrix, and always manages to get rich contrasts in his music that make it as impactful as it is thoughtful. He’s also one of the most able live acts in the game; someone who soundtracks imaginary movies that play out while you’re lost in the darkness. 

He keeps it high tempo over the course of an hour here, with corrugated drum funk and glistening sci-fi synths all racing along and taking you with them. At times there is an aggressive sense of industrialism to the music, but just when the pressure is about to get too much, you’re off into more eerie and empty sonic worlds that forever keep you guessing. Sit back, then, and enjoy a master at work.

We continue to expand our international family to India, as we welcome Vridian and his Fragments EP. It includes a collaboration with compatriot Siddhant Jain and remixes by label-returning artists Kotu and LADS.

Main title track "Fragments" is a club-oriented production, that combines vivid synth leads with an impactful off-beat, that creates an hypnotic groove, that is supported by smartly processed percussions, that only fill the neccessary space needed to push the track forward, while reserving an open space for the production to breath and unfold.

"Virtuous Pursuit" complements the release as an organic and subtle piece, that builds an atmosphere through vocal chants with sustaining reverbs and subtle synth pads, accompanied by harmonic bells. 

Kotu further explores the dreamscapes from the original, while adding an energetic drumloop, further underlined by a pulsating bassline, creating a unique spin.

LADS play with an array of interesting FX procedures, while introducing a beafy bassline, that takes over the main lead, for a bold and intense club remix, that keeps tension high and never loses focus from the things it tries to achieve.
