Demi kicks things o ff with his archetypal soul-soothing disco-tinged house. Live percussion grooves interlock punchy kicks and mesmerising arpeggios sprawl out across the top. It seems Gestalt Records are going to end the year on a strong note, not that anyone, keeping an eye on this bustling outfit, would expect otherwise. In just over 3 years of existence they have released a number of stellar EPs from producers with fresh ideas and elegant sounds. Encompassing trippy progressive, leftfield house, hypnotic breaks and everything in between - the Tallinn-based label has created a signature sound which we’re big fans of here at Bolting Bits. And it is obvious that the latest addition to their ranks will fit right in.

For their 25th release, Gestalt Records have recruited Ed Hodge, who has previously released on Distant Horizons, White Peach and Dansu Discs. Hailing from the city of Birmingham, he also makes up ½ of Mother Of Pearls, his partner being the impeccable Tom Jarmey. A true man of culture, Ed is a fully trained saxophonist/clarinettist and his output is laced with classical influences. And this release is a classic Gestalt Records 4-tracker - filled with surging beats, pacey atmosphere and progressive soundscapes.

Clocking in at just over 6 minutes, the title track ‘Zest’ was clearly created with a club setting in mind. The 127 BPM piece starts subtly but soon evolves into a rollicking number that features a number of ups and downs, sure to get listeners moving - whether that’d be on the dancefloor or under the table. The elevating synth line, coupled with relentless percussion and an obscure but catchy vocal sample holds ground and leads the way for the remainder of this forward-thinking release. Whether it’s the ethereal ‘Black Flag’, gritty ‘Genesis’ or acid-infused ‘The Secret History’, each track on the ‘Nassau’ EP features enthralling sound design and is ready to be put to the test, by the wide-eyed dancers around the world.

Rising Colombian artist Nicolas Duque takes the scene by storm. With releases on Dansu Discs, Breaks N Pieces and Nuances de Nuit the artist has left his mark with only few but quality releases that highlight his preference for electronic music with an UK-twist. Now Nicolas’ next EP is in the pipe, namely Groove Town, a club-oriented four tracker, that is soon to be out on Magic Carpet. The A2, En Voiture, which is French for by car, takes us on a ride through sounds. The housey-lush almost uplifting bass line is accompanied by smirking chords that culminate in a break-ish break accentuating the artist’s before mentioned affinity for UKG sounds. The then incoming Acid-bleeps add a different facet to En Voiture as if Nicolas floored the gas pedal to turn off at the next club exit and dance, dance, dance.

Fio Fa is back with another release exploring his finely tuned approach to effortlessly rolling, yet playful pumpers that have become characteristic of his sound. This time on his new imprint Sunset Drifters, the label launches with 4 devious dancefloor cuts that solidify his sonic relationship with the sounds of early dance music. Straightforward yet effective, the EP merges his many inspirations - the dynamic drums & flecks of acid in proto-house, the rolling basslines of progressive, and the mini melodies and synth stabs of EBM and early rave.

We start our journey on a ride through the Turquoise Kingdom - a track that pumps & pouts. The bassline skips playfully between a short acid line, while sassy whistles light the way. We are guided to a moment with familiar samples from a classic, given a tasteful touch. This sample is carefully placed for a hit of nostalgia as we switch gears - going full speed towards Dash the bouncer. A held note keeps the anticipation high while building the drums to a frenzy. A task in tension building, the mood is sneaky & scheming. The tension continues to tower over us before we encounter the final boss. The b (boss) side begins with Enter The Turtle; strutting in at sultry o-clock, it is a provocative yet punchy prance in prog paradise. The release culminates with title track Sunset Drifters - a euphoric release, channelling the continuity of the modern progressive pulse. A stunning choice for sunrise or sunset, the captivating & catchy melody resolves into elation, bringing us a feeling that one would associate with their best moments

Anderson - Sunbeam

The latest collection of wayward floor heaters from Nuances De Nuit takes us once more into a colourful headspace, a place house music with more personality is possible, and encouraged.

Huerta follows up that sterling start with the enchanting electro incantations of "Legwork", which build wonderfully on the sound laid out on his recent debut album for Voyage Recordings.

Expect attentive snare and clap combos, rooted in a tech-y-cum-glid-y perc arrangement; this combination with a rolling no nonsense bassline certify it's floor groove status. 'Legwork' proves though for a club focussed track to have legs, it needs to do more than just bang, expect melodic pads and woven synths to elevate this from the hoi polloi; enchanting melody and interplay always has a place on the floor.
