A true veteran of Madrid's fabled electronic scene, Roberto Gemelín takes the reins for local imprint Trauma Collective's sixth missive. Known for releases since the late '90s on labels as diverse as Minifunk, Nehoma, Warm Up, and his own imprint Brainwaves, he returns with the first vinyl release under the Groof alias in 10 years - the Staca EP.

Whether its the industrial-grade broken beats of opener "Take A Break", or the subterranean snarl of "Command" with its ominous swells underpinned by visceral kicks (perfect for those-heads-down moments) - the A side already showcases the diversity within Gemelín's sonic repertoire. Over on the flip, he continues his onslaught with the functional and hypnotic title track, and ends with the mind game of "Stay Puft", awash in searing synth textures and mechanised rhythms. Finally "Crash!" slams you against the wall, right from the first beat, on this with this vehemently bruising techno workout.

»sleepstep« is the first collaboration between raster-noton and dasha rush. the record‘s subtitle »sonar poems for my sleepless friends« describes its underlying concept – »sleepstep« is a trip through electronically alienated microcompositions and sound collages that, interwoven with text passages, aim at creating a dream-like atmosphere.

the stations of this journey are striving for oblivion of time, an immersion, a drifting in universal states – death, life, birth, grief, desire. the titles often appear to be raw sketches, fugitive, surreal short stories that rather want to break open than execute.

the musical arrangement, in this context, can be described as rather subtle and fragile. though electronically manipulated, no production technique is pushing itself to the fore. and though clichés are not dreaded, »sleepstep«, as a result, stays away from being cliché. the sonar poems for her sleepless friends are feminine, subtle and personal reports. a musical dream journey in the form of a classical concept record – an album that also stands in the tradition of ambient music.

dasha rush is already known as a techno dj and producer. here on »sleepstep«, she celebrates her alter ego. the cd version comes with a 32-pages booklet that also shows her photographic interest and includes the aforementioned poems written by her. furthermore there is 2 x 12" vinyl version.

When we had the idea to put these together in our song, we realized this is one of the most powerful ways to express our joy and creativity and share it with the WORLD. It's a song about simplicity, about how a simple, sincere smile can be so effective in breaking the social barriers. It's about the freedom we feel when we take a step back from all the problems in our lives and can 'just smile'. Enjoy!

Bringing to Tech House the tantalizing sounds of mystical India, "I'm In South" is a West meets East dynamically structured single, fluidly blending sounds of different cultures to create something fresh and exciting.

The powerful basslines featured make this a groovy, rhythmic release bound to engage. Piercing into these basslines is a foreign sound, like a bold intruder, yet this intruder seamlessly flows with the track.
Who is he?

Hungry for adventure, Kaix journeyed deep into India, exploring places both known and unknown. His journey extended itself, for he was constantly visiting new places in search of new sights and sounds.
Eventually Kaix ended up in South India, a place rich in culture, art, and music. He found himself in a temple one day, and observed as a priest picked up a strange looking instrument resembling a clarinet. Intrigued and unsure, Kaix waited to hear what it would sound like. When the priest finally played the instrument, the sounds emitted from it were something of another world. It pierced through the temple with a strangely unique, warped tonality to it that was simply indescribable. The mystical, enchanting melody hypnotized Kaix and further intrigued him. Seeing that he simply had no appropriate words to describe it, Kaix realized that he had to sample this. 

This is the intruder. Intruding not only into the track but also into the minds of all that listen to it, captivating and enthralling them. The combination of this enchanting foreign sound with the sounds of Tech House creates a tasteful rendition of West marrying East in an unexpectedly vibrant union. Also featured within the track are the sounds of some South Indian drums.

That’s My Jam! Records hits the ground running with this innovative first release, showing promise and new talent in the Tech House world.
