Barely Zebra, a brief history:
It all started in November 2012, Ryan and Jared met in a collaborative effort thanks to everyone's favorite website, Kijiji. Ryan Eliason is a creative genius whose song writing was only complimented by Jared TerMarsch's blazing guitar licks and knack for finding the perfect lead. For the next few months they worked on material and played various acoustic sets around Calgary, at one particular show in April 2013 they met bassist Kyle Shaughnessy who was intrigued by the two. With the ultimate goal of starting a band Kyle jumped on board, and the now three begun working on Ryan's backlogged catalogue. It would be the next four months of weekly practices and failed attempts at finding a drummer until finally Brendon Burgess came onto the scene. From the very first song it was clear Brendon was cut for the job, his all around musical talents and experience translated well to what will be known as the Barely Zebra sound. Come October, enter Grady Topak. At this point the bands chemistry was starting to reveal itself, and Ryan had expressed his desire to incorporate some of his keyboard talents to the sound. Grady would prove to be the answer, he offered unparalleled harmonies and his third guitar would fill sound space previously unexplored, he would also play a more traditional role at guitar for Ryan's songs on keys(coming soon). 

Currently Barely Zebra is working on creative efforts from Ryan, Jared and Grady, supported by a class rhythm section in Brendon and Kyle. Whether it be a trio of guitars or some blend of synth and guitars, they are constantly working on their sound and exploring music as musicians should. You'll find the band is playing the local music scene, with practicing and recording taking place at Brendon's home studio in Airdrie.
