On the Saturday night of @tropicomx 2017 the crowd descended onto the Beach stage in great numbers. Having already embarked on a musical pilgrimage through the harmonies of Brian Wilson’s Pet sounds, the Afrobeat intensity of Sean Kuti and a cosmic performance from @toddterje - the crowd were then treated to a kaleidoscopic journey in Disco, Funk and chunky edits from the legendary @gregwilson. This two hour live recording demonstrates perfectly why Greg is still considered top of his game, 41 years since he first donned a pair of headphones.

Chic had a sound of all their own, the crack rhythm section of Nile Rodgers (guitar), Bernard Edwards (bass) and drummer Tony Thompson providing the highly infectious grooves that characterised their records. They would be massively influential as a consequence, their anthemic tracks still loved all these years later, with a new younger generation embracing their good time vibe in the same way their parents might have.
 
The mix consists of 12 edits / reworks of 9 Rogers & Edwards produced tracks, all of which happened to be originally recorded during 1977-79, the years which saw Disco peak and decline, with Chic at the helm during those halcyon days, their own recordings providing 4 US top 10 singles, including a pair of #1s, whilst Sister Sledge, whose success they mentored, weighed in via the hit-laden ‘We Are Family’ LP. They even found time for a French excursion via Sheila & B Devotion’s ‘Spacer’.

LUXXURY (Kitsuné, Future Disco, Boogie Angst, Eskimo, Deep&Disco, Big Beat) makes dance music for adults. Raw, funky bass-lines plucked with grown-man finesse. A mastery of space disco native only to those who lived through the late '70s/early '80s. Dust in the glitter that vibrates in the space between string stabs, bongo slaps, and guitar jabs—while the steady pulse and astral effects feel beamed in from a more cybernetic future Los Angeles. That's where the nu-disco wizard born Blake Robin dwells when he isn't on the road opening for Giorgio Moroder or the Juan MacLean, leading his 4 piece band on late-night TV or remixing live at DJ sets in Mexico City, New York and London. In fact, you might've first felt his deft touch via the controversial  LUXXURY Edits—where he uses multi-tracks (stems) of classic hits to create dubby slow-disco versions—but his original music is no less arresting, with a sound that reflects not only a newfound earnestness of expression but a lifelong love for the craft of disco.
