Having recently relocated to Vancouver in the name of continuing our rhythmic voyage, we at XVI are pleased to bring you the first offering from London-based beatsmith "Munro". First up is BYOG (Crown Heights), a summery hip hop infused , uptempo head nodder. Featuring an abstract but undeniably addictive baseline, and driving, crisp drum pattern, completed with rich golden analogue textures  . On the flip side, SIBWIR is a deep, slow-mo chugger. It's uplifting chord pattern and spine tingling vocals provide an absolute summertime treat, perfect for hazy beach sessions.

The soundtrack to a demented late night drive: a deceptively simple Roland 606 beat and a hypnotic 8th note bassline topped with a series of unforgettable melodies. Inspired by original disco master Giorgio Moroder, the whimsy of Norweigan DJ Todd Terje and the addictive melodic sensibilities of 80s synthpop stars Pet Shop Boys, The Cure and Depeche Mode. Roll down the windows and feel the night breeze as you drive into the distance, and into an unknown future.

This song leans fully into classic Synthwave, channeling the spirit of The Midnight, Timecop1983, NINA, and GUNSHIP. The vocal fits this retro-futuristic vibe perfectly. Almost as if the song was born for it.

EVIE SANDS - You can do it (dj supermarkt's silky edit)

Rising Finnish star @ronyrex dropped his highly praised debut EP "F*cked It Up" via @youthcontrol last month and it went straight to #2 on the Finnish iTunes Dance Album chart. The title track is a shimmering and housed up dance pop bomb that features vocals from indie pop outfit LCMDF.

Now, he's getting ready to unleash the remix version of the EP from which we get the @roisto remix of "Burn". Fellow Finnish producer Roisto has been praised by the likes of Thump, DJ Mag and Wired and has spawned the huge single "Apart In Love", which has picked up two million Spotify plays to this date and was licensed by Toolroom. 

His disco sounding remix is filled to the brim with warmth and colour, along with funked up guitar riffs that plays against the breezy vocals for this summer time number.

We wound up with a couple of remixes coming in past our EP deadline, so we thought we'd give these tracks away as a special FREE EP - in thanks for all the support you've shown us on this release.

LIAISON's version is a stomping Electro Funk groove.

Late Night Tuff Guy found a groove that's 100% Disco Anthem.

AB/TC delivered a dubby, hypnotic mix.

For our third EP on the Mandrill we welcome back our more consistent artist on the label: C. Da Afro with four outstanding tropical cuts. To introduce the release 'Coconuts' arrives with a fresh marimba, a distinguished strings section and latin piano chords making it a perfect combination to start any type of set. Right next to it comes 'Highlight Groove' an amazing afro-vibe cut with a prominent bassline, a phenomenal saxophone solo and exotic female vocals. On the third position 'Tropical Boogie' brings a chilled vibe to the release with french house touch to it among vocoders, analog synthesizers and digital basslines. For our last but not least 'Zooming' ends this story with a romantic taste with a synthesized bassline, an 80's drum pattern and a nostalgic female vocal unwinding thing up.

C. Da Afro - Coconuts [FEP003]

We are more thrilled to welcome the mighty Thievery Corporation.

Taken from their highly acclaimed album Radio Retaliation which was originally released on their label ESL, El Pueblo Unido gets the remix treatment courtesy of Miguel Migs who delivers some creatively thoughtful reinterpretations of the song.

With plenty of live instrumentation including a healthy dose of layered percussion and a smooth horn riff, warm synth chords and deep bouncing basslines are all showcased here along with cut-up and dubbed out vocal snippets for a balance of depth and dimension.

High level production values, steady grooves, complex yet subtle arrangements and well crafted musicianship are all featured here in this lovely package.

In fact, you might've first felt his deft touch via the controversial  LUXXURY Edits—where he uses multi-tracks (stems) of classic hits to create dubby slow-disco versions—but his original music is no less arresting, with a sound that reflects not only a newfound earnestness of expression but a lifelong love for the craft of disco.
