Don't have much to say on the goofier side of things here, unfortunately. The silly side of the date was one of many things I never got around to finishing in the rewrite.

As for the serious side...Sans offers to share with you the state of the kingdom, and what you're about to walk into if you keep moving forward. Lore dump incoming!

"WELP, GET COZY! THIS STORY'S A LONG ONE."

He shares that the underground is in the middle of a civil war. 

After Asgore abandoned the kingdom and Toriel became the sole ruler, she made it very clear that any human that were to fall down into their home were to be treated kindly, unless they sought to harm others. She did not believe in using humans who had no quarrel with monsterkind as a stepping stone toward freedom. 

Many monsters disagreed with the Queen's ruling, believing that it would keep them trapped underground forever. They longed to see the sun again and many begged Toriel to reconsider, but she dismissed any attempts to change her mind. 

Eventually, a group of monsters formed; a silent rebellion, plotting to discreetly capture and kill any humans that fell, hostile or not. Their souls would be contained and eventually given to their leader, who would become a god that would save monsters from their mountain prison. 

Five humans were killed before they were caught. A few of the members were apprehended, and the souls were brought to Toriel's chamber. Among those five was a human that Toriel had met herself, an ambitious young child that reminded her of her late Asriel. She broke down upon receiving this news, and the souls reacted to her emotional outburst. They erupted from their glass containers, creating a magical barrier in her chamber, similar to the one that sealed the monsters beneath Mt. Ebott. It seemed the souls were trying to protect her, but...in the long run, it didn't do anyone much good.

The souls scattered afterward. No one knows what happened to them. There's rumors they turned to stone, and that people have found them and are hiding them, but there's nothing concrete to back that up.

The Queen was effectively locked away from her own kingdom, and the rebellion took this as an opportunity to expand uncontested. They became The Nexus, and they've fully taken Hotland as their territory. They've tried to press further into Waterfall and Snowdin, but the remaining guard has refused to let that happen.

What stood in the center of this war was you: the player. The Nexus needs another human, and many monsters are willing to turn you over to them for their own safety. You have a few allies (in Pacifist, at least), but ultimately, this journey would be one with many hostile faces. 



Being able to finally share this aspect of the story is...relieving, in a sense. It's probably not what most were expecting outside of those who had story leaked to them via team members, but it's been a big aspect of the story for a long time. More to come on this stuff in future tracks...does Soundcloud have a description character limit? I sure hope it doesn't.

Chara fell down into the Underground with the hopes that they'd either pass on on their own terms, or stumble upon the monsters they kept hearing so much about. They're not the most pleased with humanity as a whole, to say the least. There's been people in their past who put them through a lot of harassment. Some believe this is why Chara ended up where they are. 

Even underground, though, with humans that would come and go, the harassment wouldn't stop. Until the unfortunate demise of the royal family, humans used to be welcome and could safely enter and exit the Underground without much trouble. But when disaster struck, Chara knew exactly who to blame. They decided it was time to take matters into their own hands, and finally formed the Royal Guard, something that had not yet been established at that time.

Chara actually once knew our protagonist, Oliver, but with the amount of time that passed and how much more they felt justified in their disdain for society, they have a hard time recognizing Oliver or trusting that they're "not like the others".
