SLOW860 is the latest chapter in Charlie Fieber, aka Fracture’s, celebration of pirate radio culture, merging it with his Chopped & Screwed-inspired Slow Astro world. This third "Slow" adventure pushes the concept further, adding another album to his critically acclaimed 0860 project. The result is a 60-minute, unbroken collage of 14 new compositions and 6 'slow ambient' 0860 remixes, interwoven with pirate radio skits and fuzz. Drawing inspiration from The KLF’s Chill Out and his teenage experiences falling asleep to stations like Kool FM and Weekend Rush, familiar elements from Fracture’s work emerge, yet remain hauntingly just out of reach as he deconstructs and extends 0860.

Staying true to pirate radio culture, the deluxe package comes in 'The First Aid Kit'—a term used by stations to describe listeners' stash boxes for enhancing the listening experience. The kit includes 0860 Astrophonica-branded rolling papers, stickers, and three cassette albums: SLOW860, the original 0860 Mixtape, and an exclusive cassette-only bonus, Ambient Signal Test—a 90-minute album of degraded Jungle breakdowns, originally broadcast to test the signal from the accompanying pop-up station, 0860.fm.

Café del Groove

I started this mix series a number of years ago, but then moved abroad and was unable to continue. During that time I started the Basic Rhythm project as a means of more explicitly exploring my own musical background in pirate radio and in the process re-contextualizing and updating it. Having since moved back to London I decided to relaunch the series, this time using the Basic Rhythm alias as it felt more apt to tie it to this project. Fact Mag were hosting the series for a brief time, but I decided I would prefer to do it on my own and have total control over the artwork and presentation. Each mix will naturally be entirely subjective, consisting of what I was playing and listening to at the time, as well as the big tunes on radio and in the raves.

The series starts at my early days of buying records at Music Power in Ilford, Total Music in Bethnal Green, Boogie Times in Romford, and even the odd trip to Paul for Music in Whitechapel; listening to Pulse FM, Unity 88.4, Weekend Rush and of course Kool FM; going raving at Telepathy, One Nation, Slammin’ Vinyl, Stratford Rex, Bagley's, The End and so on; playing on my first pirate station, eventually ending up on the infamous Rude FM. It kicks off in 1990, moving through early House and Techno, Hardcore, Jungle and eventually Drum & Bass.

The name is taken from a series of 12″s on 3rd Party Records, and feels suited to the mixes as not only did most of us start mixing in our bedrooms back then, but that is also where a lot of us made the music.

Basic Rhythm - Straight from the Bedroom 91 - 93

Claes Rosén and Ola Näslund from Nynäshamn, located south from the city of Stockholm, Sweden, form the duo respectively known as L-Wiz.

Although not from UK Shores like much of the early pioneers of the Dubstep sound, their love for UK Bass Music in the early noughties put them on the path to being one of the early contributors to the emerging genre of Dubstep.  A UK genre which has since gone on to influence many aspects of popular mainstream bass music culture today.

In 2003 they reached out to Caspa, through what was back then the legendary dubplate.net forum. One of the only forums where the early originators and pioneers of the sound were able to connect and share ideas outside of the physical realm of clubland, where CD’s would pass hands as frequently as tracks pass digitally over Bandcamp today.

This fateful interaction, culminated in the first L-Wiz release on what the beginning of the irrefutable Dub Police label (Dub Police 001 – Habibi, Egyptic, Girlfriend). From then on L -Wiz has had a slew of releases on labels such as Universal Music, Sony Music, Kapsize, Destructive Recordings, Sonic Boom, Red Volume and their crew label All Out Dubstep.

Recognition of the Duo’s achievement in this sphere, led to them winning the P3 Gold music prize in 2012 for “Dance of the Year” from the Swedish radio channel Sveriges Radio P3, the first Dubstep act to win this award in at that time was the 9th year in the ceremony’s history.

In 2015 they released their debut Album entitled “The Orange Tree”. A showcase of the duo’s unique style which features 15 tracks. The album is an eclectic combination of ideas which are the culmination of the pair’s passion and sonic history, blended together in a sublime manner which has delighted both fans of old and the new Dubstep “new guard” whom are championing this sound for the future.

In recent years the duo have expanded into the area of label management, with the launch of their record label NA Records in 2018. With this they can continue to provide an outlet for their sound and to use it as a platform to launch other’s whose sounds resonate with their own time and space.
