Jersey Club pioneer UNIIQU3 launches her new Heartbeats remix series on Local Action, tapping UK Garage figurehead Conducta for a remix of last year's hit 'Microdosing'.

Released last Summer, 'Microdosing' is arguably Jersey Club's biggest record to date - longlisted for the 2021 Grammys, acclaimed in Best of 2021 lists by Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Crack and more, playlisted on BBC Radio 6 for six weeks and made the face of Spotify's flagship billboard in Times Square, New York. The months since 'Microdosing' has only seen UNIIQU3's status grow, touring the world, co-producing Chlöe's double-platinum mega-hit 'Have Mercy' and more.

Conducta meanwhile has pushed UK Garage forward like few others in recent years, incubating the sound's new wave of DJs and producers through his label Kiwi Rekords, producing AJ Tracey's triple-platinum 'Ladbroke Grove' and spreading the gospel from Sonar to South America. His 'Microdosing' remix is the first in a series of remixes of UNIIQU3's Heartbeats EP that will be released on Local Action throughout Summer 2022.

This week's Disquiet Junto prompt challenged us to a duel with a metronome: record a piece of music that weaves in and out of a steady beat. 

I assembled a trio comprising the Moog Minitaur (lead and bass), Roland Juno (pads), and Waldorf Streichfett (strings). I improvised a meandering chord sequence and spent a lot of time mixing multiple layers of analog pads to bring it to life. Against the steady backdrop of a simple percussion pattern, I recorded the lead performance on the Minitaur. Since this synth doesn't sync to the MIDI clock on the computer, riding the LFO controls manually let me improvise the swirling/cycling/beating patterns that dance within, against, and without the beat. 

About the vocals: When I was listening to the mix earlier today, I heard a momentary audio artifact that sounded like a muffled voice. This inspired me to add a vague vocal part for way back in the mix, so recorded myself reading an excerpt from "A Vision of the Night" by Ambrose Bierce.
