This is a tune I wrote quite a while ago and thought it was high time to record it. The title reflects the tune in that there are two parts that are quite different from each other. Not quite night and day but maybe Am versus PM.

The traditional Irish melody SLANE is used for the hymns ‘Lord of all hopefulness’ and ‘Be thou my vision’, and this fantasia quotes from fragments of the melody in a reflective manner, later presenting the melody complete in the left hand, with decorations above, finally dying away to a coda based on the final four notes.
Alan Bullard's Piano Prayer and Praise series contains solo piano pieces, mainly based on well-known hymns or worship songs, suitable for use in church services – either played complete or using sections as shorter interludes.
