With this release the label celebrates the return to the ranks of the founder Worg (@worgmusic). A triumphant homecoming comparable to that of Jason, the main character of the Argonautica, who travelled in search of the Golden Fleece (Il Vello d’Oro) aboard the ship Argo. After many vicissitudes, the hero returned to Iolco, his homeland, to reclaim the throne usurped by his half-brother Pelias. 

 This new chapter in the Lykos saga focuses on the deeds of Jason and the Argonauts, but also on a key figure who was indispensable to the success of this quest, Medea. Thanks to her and her magical skills, the fellowship of heroes succeeded in grabbing the Golden Fleece. Through careful sound design, hinted melodic cells and complex rhythms, Il Piano di Medea by Worg, sums up details and facts related to this extraordinary legend. Starting from the prophecies of the Oracles, to the tragic and bloody ending of the epic poem, which took place with the death of King Pelias by his own daughters, hypnotized and manipulated by Medea's magic. 

 The narrative begins with the track Oracolo, characterized by a syncopated groove, nebulous atmospheres and the presence of a dark anthropomorphic synth, which alludes to the solemn, grave and authoritative voice of an entity. A prophetic spirit that warns the listener of the dangers that lurk for those who dare to enter this new sonic adventure.  

 In order to foretell the future and to spread their word, the gods took possession of the bodies of priests who had fallen into ecstasy, using them as intermediaries. In his reinterpretation of Oracolo Neel (@neel), the grand Maestro of techno, in a similar way uses musical elements such as a harsh and acid bass line or a tight rhythm to lead the listener into a psychic state of suspension and mystical elevation.  

 In the music piece Il Vello d’Oro, Worg draws attention to the rare preciousness of this magical relic, rumored to have the power to heal all wounds and for this reason longed by Jason. To evoke the purity of the golden mantle, the artist uses shimmering percussion, radiant textures and the omnipresence of an FM synth bass, full of brilliant harmonics. All enhanced by sound details scattered throughout the arrangement. 

 Eryx, the record's final track, has a fluid and sinuous flow, with sound elements that recall water, a natural element, protagonist of the Argonauts' journey to the remote Colchis. A melody echoes in the distance, disappears and resurfaces to then collide, like waves on the rocks, with the complex and jagged rhythms that mark the gradual evolution of the track.

For this week, Cellar Door invites https://soundcloud.com/gianlucameloni-laertes who brings heaps of uncompromising metallic  tribal sounds and heavy beats. Acid and hardgroove influenced journey that, as the artist himself suggests, mirrors the crazy times we have recently found ourselves in. 


ARTISTS BIO: 
Gianluca Meloni, born in Rome , made his musical path trough different styles; has been studying Piano at “Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Roma” and played in various underground bands; his big passion about music starts back when he after being listening to Tangerine Dreams first album decides to buy his first synth: a Korg MS-10.
He was a pioneer in the 90′s and was able to insert electronic seeds into an underground scene mainly ruled by Gianluca Meloni A.K.A. LAERTES
progressive rock; his most important contribution in that period was to the album “Strani Sogni” of the band SIG V, CNI Music -Italy.
His debut single “Perchè Non Parli” was a huge successs in Italy and was much more than often played in italians radio’s shows;

Not that later he mets up with Dino Sabatini, still “just” a guitarist, after a studio session and a very solid friendship, based on their common passion for music, starts to grow between them; that amazing duo soon became the “Modern Heads” project, leading both of them to play in some of the most prestigious clubs around the globe as Panorama Bar in Berlin, Brancaleone in Rome and Macumba, Madrid, AIR Tokyo, FUSE in Bruxelles, just to list few.
Some years later Gianluca together with Carlo Alfano became the founder of the project “notfromearth“, expanding his artistic view into a very well crafted new Audio & Video concept, revealing soon his high level of professionally and experience; his first e.p. on Prologue label, “Origin e.p.”, is indeed a big proof of that !.
In 2016 Start new Solo project LAERTES his new solo project, Laertes, inspired by the research of electronic music through the modular synthesis and passion for live improvisation, in which reason in his live set will always find vintage analog instruments, and modern technology.

In Chapter VI of the Lykos epic, the destinies of two majestic cities from the VII century B.C., Rome and Alba Longa, intertwined in a confrontation that soon transformed into a titanic battle. This epic clash, extended into a long and bloody war, laid the foundations of a precarious balance, leaving both powers in a deadlock. The rulers of the two cities, the noble King Tullus Hostilius of Rome and the proud King Mettius Fufetius of Alba Longa, aware of the devastation the war had wrought, decided to end the conflict.

To avoid further bloodshed, they appointed two groups of representatives to decide the outcome of the dispute. For Rome, the Horatii (Orazi), three brothers of noble lineage and sons of Publius Horatius, and for Alba Longa, the three Curiatii (Curiazi) twins, prepared for an epic duel with swords as the instrument of judgment.

Similarly, in the world of artists, a similar confrontation took shape. Two divergent visions, two contrasting yet somehow akin masteries collided. Laertes (@gianlucameloni-laertes), a veteran with legendary exploits, and Worg (@worgmusic), a young tribunus militum rich in fervor, joined forces. Amidst meetings, exchanges of ideas, and deep respect, a new chapter in their artistic history was born.

This EP, like the conflict between Rome and Alba Longa, presents itself as an eclectic collection of tracks. Its musical narrative reflects the epic battle of the 7th century B.C. The vinyl, divided into side α and β, juxtaposes the reflective and tribal depth of deep-techno (side β) with the visceral, physical, and dancefloor-oriented aspect of techno (side α).

Side α immerses the listener’s imagination within the battle with “Vincitori” and “Vinti”. In “Vincitori”, Laertes and Worg converge their skills into mammoth atmospheres, syncopated rhythms, and metallic percussion, bringing a clash of blades to life through sharp synths and a groove reminiscent of the thunder of war horses. The former presents in “Vinti” a majestic metallic melody, evoking, the roar of battle and the glittering sword strokes and slashes hurled at iron shields.

The side β opening with “Alba Longa”, it evokes the ancient city through sinuous and seductive choirs, sound textures reminiscent of tribal ceremonies, and rhythms of ancient tribes. With “Trigemini”, the ritual intensifies, featuring frenzied metallic percussion and synths that evoke wild lands and primordial civilizations.

Thus, both in mythical antiquity and contemporary techno, the confrontation between powers and visions leads to the creation of an epic chapter, carved in vinyl and the legends of the times.

Gościem czternastego epizodu BTS podcast jest Gianluca Meloni, urodzony w Rzymie, dj, muzyk, producent. Wykształcenie muzyczne pobierał w konserwatorium Świętej Cecylii w Rzymie. Jego wielka muzyczna pasja rozpoczeła się wraz z odsłuchaniem pierwszego albumu Tangerine Dreams. Był pionierem w latach dziewięćdziesiątych we Włoszech, wprowadzając na podziemną scenę muzykę elektroniczną na której rządził głównie progresywny rock. Jego największym dokonaniem w tych latach był album "Strani Sogni" z grupą Sig V.
Wraz z poznaniem Dino Sabatiniego, z którym połączyła go przyjaźń i pasja do muzyki elektronicznej, stworzyli duet "Modern Heads", grając w najbardziej prestiżowych klubach na całym świecie. Parę lat później, razem z Carlo Alfano, stworzył projekt "notfromearth" wydając na uznanym, niemieckim labelu Prologue. W 2013 roku uruchomili nowy projekt pod nazwą "Light Spheres" debiutując z nim na Noise Ressistance Records. W 2015 roku wystartował z solowym projektem "Laertes", projektem inspirowanym podróżą do Hadesu, wyrażaną za pomocą muzyki. Jego album wkrótce zostanie wydany na Outis Music.

BTS Podcast 014 - Laertes

The Ep “Lupercus” inaugurates the Lykos Records label, inspired by the legendary figure of Lupercus and the rites connected to him.
The Lupercali, among the most important festivals of the Roman calendar, were celebrated every year on the Palatine Hill in honor of the god Lupercus.
The propitiatory fertility ritual was consummated near the ancient cave where the Lupa nursed Romulus and Remus. From these celebrations comes the choice to title the tracks “Lupercus” and “Rapsodia Sciamanica”, as a wish for longevity and prosperity for Lykos Records. 
The ritual begins with “Lupercus”, from the gloomy soundscape that hides, in an aura of mystery, brilliant and strident sound details. Feral's (@feral_music) interpretation confers a magical and ethereal dimension to the track, creating a suspended harmony with the use of flutes and pads. 
Ancient rites are re-evoked by the obscure sounds of “Rapsodia Sciamanica”  which brings the ancestral Roman cult back to life.
Worg's (@worgmusic) music with obsessive rhythms and oneiric melodies is the bridge between our reality and the pagan divinity.
In the hands of the Ukrainian Svarog (@svarogtechnomusic), the track is tinged with dull colors with a strong predominance of the kick and a swirling drone, thus completing the ceremony.

In ancient Rome, Consuls held two strategic roles: exercising authority over all the public affairs of the city and accompanying the legions in their military campaigns.

Lykos Records gave this role to Artist Laertes (@gianlucameloni-laertes), born Gianluca Meloni.
Ambassador of sound of Rome, Laertes has been one of the pioneers of the deep-techno genre.
After establishing in Italy as producer, live performer and mastering engineer, he exported his aesthetics all around the world.

Titanomachia is the title of Laertes' new work inspired by Hesiod's Theogony. The artist tells through aggressive and groovy sounds one of the bloodiest wars in Greek mythology, Zeus leading the Olympian gods versus Chronos and the Titans.

"Chaos" throws us into the swirl of battle. The repetitive sound of the synth bass sequence alludes to the sound of spears broken on shields, while pads and strings charge the entire track with tension.
The narration continues in a daring succession of loops and hypnotic rhythms, with the second track "The Immortal". Strident bleeps and incessant percussions and rhythmic patterns characterize the progressive crescendo.

The description of the battle changes with Worg (@worgmusic), who proposes his version of "Chaos". The story of the battle is entrusted to the evolution of lashing metallic effects that recall the lightning of the father of all Gods. Psyk (@psyk) closes the chronicle of the epic battle with the adaptation of "The Immortal". The kick recalls war drums that galvanize the troops on battlefields. The artist evokes the heroic spirit with powerful and thunderous sounds.

 Founded by Worg in the Anno Urbis Conditæ MMXVIII, Lykos Records was born from the ruins and rubble of ancient imperial Rome. 

 Lykos Records draws its inspiration on such a decadent charm. The label builds its poetics on journeys through time and history, with particular attention to that aura that still today makes both Greek and Latin mythologies eternal and memorable. 

 Victories, defeats, narrations of extraordinary and epic events are depicted into that graphic-musical style characteristic of Lykos Records: from a deep, hypnotic and mental sound to rougher, visceral and pressing ones. A new generation of artists and remixers, flanked by some of the most renowned international masters, are involved. 

 The sound suggested by Lykos legionnaires, through sound design techniques, harmonies, melodies, evocative texture creations and different genres mixed together, makes of each release a story of its own, unique and rare.

 If ars dicendi, the art of saying or rhetoric, was born in ancient Rome, it is now in contemporary Rome music that promotes the art of conceiving, producing and evoking stories, sensations and memories, by all the techniques already mentioned.
 Through these sounds, music becomes a language able of communicating emotions: an interiority created by the musical production touching deep inside the soul of the listener.

 Each release is a unique piece for collectors as it is enriched by hand-drawn artwork. Actually, the ruins of ancient Rome are illustrated by artist Roberto Mulliri, whose works condense the magic of two thousand years of history. His drawings recall the seventeenth-century engravings, with exasperated perspective visions mixed with violent optical effects. The illustrations on the covers of Lykos Records are an invitation to discover some precious Roman treasures - they are a journey through myths and legends between Colosseum, Pantheon and the Imperial Forums. 

 The label is nourished of Rome, of its history and of those souls that roam its streets.
