IDEAS LOST Pt. 2

Hey there, KNODE boys here.

Five years ago, a ransomware attack wiped out every project file we had from our sessions together. We were fortunate enough to recover some of the WAV renders of a few of these projects, but they are in the form of sketches and early works in progress. In the years since, we've each been doing new things and exploring different sides of our creativity—solo work, collaborative projects, live sound, and things completely removed from the world of music. In the interim, these files sat untouched while we wrestled with what they represented to us: unfinished work, unrealized potential, a reflection of our vision. While spending the last five years trying to re-build a catalogue, holding onto these felt wrong. It honestly felt like we could not let go of work that was lost, as it represented a time in our lives where we were both excited for what the future of our project could look like. Releasing them didn’t feel like an option either, as we both struggle with perfectionism and the thought of people hearing half-baked music made us both nervous.

Despite this, we decided to compile an “album” of the surviving WAV renders from this time, incomplete ideas that we never thought would see the light of day. Our ideas as artists often get stuck in the space between intention and execution, never quite becoming what we imagine in our minds. This is our attempt at a making peace with imperfection by showing the work as it existed and not as what it “should have been”. This release also marks a turning point, honoring what we made back then while giving ourselves permission to move forward separately and together in new ways.

If you've ever struggled to finish something, to release something that doesn't feel "ready," or to move on from work you've outgrown - this is for you. We hope this inspires you to let go too.
