The follow up to FOFR_DIGI_01 sees Soul Bass Project return alongside distinctive experimental DnB producer, Books. Once again, this release will be raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity, so please part with some cash for this incredibly important cause. 

The first track, Tempa, Tempa, finds Soul Bass Project experimenting. Minimal halftime DnB rhythms with tightly chopped junglist breaks are fused with a wobbling bassline that could come straight from one of their Dubstep productions. Dark melodies and arpeggiated synths are punctuated with aggressive reese bass cuts. The resultant composition evokes many different bass music styles, whilst remaining distinctively a Soul Bass Project production. 

The second track, Occupations of Uninhabited Space is haunting melodic track of dark beauty, paradoxically contemporary and timeless. It sees Books exploring new textures and pushing new boundaries to produce a compelling evolution of his past work, which regularly made use of sampled and processed industrial machinery. Here, jagged, metallic synth stabs and excoriating iron filing pads create an atmospheric, immersive, and somewhat dystopian journey. Accompanying half-time beats are a nod to the Autonomic style, underlaid with relentless deep, sub-rattling bass.

Benedikt Frey makes his debut on Rhythmic Culture Records with ‘Hoover’. The German producer–known for his previous work on labels such as ESP Institute, Hivern Discs and his own R.i.O. imprint–delivers a 4-track EP that is a journey through the breakbeat spectrum with a distinct focus on sonic experimentation. From the hypnotic dynamic in ‘Blue Lights’ complimented by the vocals of DALO, to the intriguing dance floor rhythms in ‘Henry’ and ‘Deadlines’ and downtempo mesmerising track ‘Trees’, ‘Hoover’ puts another side of Frey’s work in the limelight.
