Side by Side is a compilation of rare and unreleased tracks by Noir Age artists' side projects. This compilation commemorates the 50th release from the Noir Age label. The sides of the tape are split into North, East, South, and West.

Our family of outer-sound practitioners living and working within a darkened hue of sonic mind alteration. Textures and patterns, apparition and essence, temper and love, streaks of night rain and shards of sunlight, rooms and machines, under noiseless clouds at the very edge of things. This is Side By Side.

A. Campbell Payne dives deeply into the crystalline chimes and resonant bells of FM synthesis for the six tracks of 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒔 + 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔. Swirling polyrhythms and ambiguous modal harmonies convey their feelings during a fitful period of recording during 2020-1. Payne says, “Living between two places[…], going through the motions of travel while not going anywhere new created a restless atmosphere for performing this music,” which is reflected by cyclic structures both within and between tracks.

In contrast to the sparkling timbres of 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒔 + 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, subtle compositional instabilities imply an underlying unease. But as a complete suite, it is intended as “an aide in processing feelings of dread, anxiety, and hopelessness”, and Payne continues: “I encourage you to listen to this while on a hike or in other contemplative, open settings.”

Japanese sound artist yolabmi delivered highly experimental musical visionary of modular buzz tones and atmospherics, approaching from harmoniums to high frequency stereo tones. 'Internal Resurrection' utilizes alleviative, yet extremely rousing soundworld captivated by sonic atmospheres.

Park Daham is a gravitational force within the underground network of Seoul, South Korea. He operates as a DJ, artist, and organizer without the trappings of stylistic borders. This mix is a compilation of solo material, remix's he created, and audio phone captures from 2020-2023. A better person could not be chosen to make selection for the latest PL mix series.

PL MIX - PARK DAHAM

René Danger is back with his "Gwerz Boy" EP and transversal project mixing music (indeed), but also a fanzine and a video game on an actual Game Boy cartridge!
With "Enez Eusa", René Danger tells a traditional Breton gwerz (lament) about the loss of loved ones at sea, readapted over minimalist gameboy arpeggios. 
Plot twist and spoilers: it ends in a cathartic gabber apotheosis.
