This little piece was composed for my Modal Composition class at Humber. We had to choose a mode to write within...I chose the F dorian mode, and because Josh my son was at the time playing Bach's Gavotte in C minor, it was in my head. So here's a little Bach-a-la-Dorian! 

It's scored for 2 flutes, piano, electric keyboard, bass, percussion, 2 violins & cello.

Here's a little harmonic exploration, centered around the feelings of fall -- thanksgiving, reflection, a quieting down of sorts, and the pull homeward.

Fall Finds Me Home, piano

This piece was inspired by the tumultuous life of Canadia-Russian cyber-clerk, Igor Gouzenko and research for a trailer on Gouzenko that I got to score for Toronto filmmaker Geordie Sabbagh.  It chronicles his brave choice to reveal to the Canadian government a Soviet spy ring that spanned Britain, America and Canada, a move which some say began the Cold War. Thanks to the support of the ACWC's first ever Strings Recording Project, which gave me the opportunity to write this piece, under the guidance of composer Ariel Marx,  and then record it with the FAMES Recording Orchestra's 40-piece string orchestra! The sections heard here are as follows: "In the face of death, the choice is made"; "Got to get out"; "First Steps to Freedom"
