Seasonal Sounds is a seasonal programme which aims to do a sonic interpretation of the current (and coming) season - both in terms of pace, seasonal events and its characteristics. It combines a variety of musical genres, sonic textures and field recordings in a mix for the season.

Seasonal Sounds #5 marks the beginning of a new year of Seasonal Sounds. This time the season of winter has gotten colder, harsher and more disturbing since we visited it last year. The environment surrounding us cries for attention - howling as it insists on us to face it. I hope we collectively listen to what it has to say, and understand its good intentions for its call to action. Maybe if we listen closely enough, portals of alternative magical worlds will show themselves in the gloomy landscape. WINTER.

Seasonal Sounds #5: Winter

Doble Camí is the second release from the Prisme label since its artistic overhaul in early 2023. Assuming an eclectic and pioneering approach, this new various is definitely looking to the future. Carefully selected, no fewer than 10 artists are featured on this new opus, oscillating between bass music, breakbeat, electro, IDM and other alternative currents that color this new project by the Lyon-based collective.

"Once in a small village, there was an old house known to be haunted. Nobody dared to enter it, except for a curious young musician named Arun. One night, driven by his fascination for the unknown, Arun decided to explore the house. As he stepped inside, the air turned cold, and he could hear faint melodies echoing through the halls. Following these sounds, he found an ancient piano in the attic. When he touched it, the room lit up with ghostly figures, all former musicians, trapped in an eternal concert. They were bound to the piano, forever playing music for an audience that was no longer there.

Arun, feeling a connection with these lost souls, decided to help them. He played a melody so beautiful and pure that it broke the spell, freeing the spirits. As they left, each ghost whispered a secret melody in his ear, gifting him with songs that had never been heard by the living. Arun left the house, inspired and grateful, his life forever changed by the night he played music with ghosts."

One of the UK's freshest emerging dance music labels, responsible for stalwart releases from Special Request and Nightwave, return for their 19th release.

The succinct beats of Pugilist have perked the ears of labels like Whities, 3024 and Trule to name but a few. And having previously featured on volume one of the label's new 'EleVAte' compilation series, among artists like Otik, Appleblim and Commix, he returns to the imprint for his first, full four-tracker; 'Siphon'.

The title track, Siphon, blasts through with authentic jungle chops, scattered together asymmetrically like a beautiful chaotic tapestry.

'Regrowth' is a swung garage stepper, jammed live on a 909 with earthquaking low-end frequencies that warmingly morph from underneath.

On remix duties of 'Siphon', is no other than Lobster Theremin alumni, Coco Bryce. With surreal, microprocessing of the heavyweight blows from the original, he also resamples time-stretched speech samples to devastating effect.

'Nightshade' closes out the record with its steadfast amen rinse-out and pokey 808 subs, concluding one of the most forward-thinking and new-school jungle records for the label, all the while serving as an exemplary ode to the old-school.
