If the British can boast of having an electronic scene of which Dave Clarke would be the figurehead, then on the French side of the Channel they can boast of having Fred Poncet aka UMWELT, talented producer and DJ emeritus who is well known in the underground since the 90s. Its visibility in France and internationally has been growing for several years, driven by its formidable productions and the quality of his vinyl-only sets. Umwelt’s production and selection of tracks in his DJ sets can be described as “dark electro” the term on which Umwelt himself commented: “Yes it's not bad, you can add drama too, it's good. I like the dark world with themes and atmospheres that give goosebumps.”

Sounds From NoWhere welcomes aboard the Portuguese dj & producer A Thousand Details (Animal Farm Records / Diffuse Reality Records).

Gustavo Lima, aka A Thousand Details can be considered possibly as one of the most important rising artist of Portugal´s techno scene. 
In the recent years this Porto based producer has established himself at the forefront of Portugal´s next generation of techno DJs.
Known for fast paced, dark and somewhat distorted rhythms this energetic and charismatic Dj is huge fan of hardware synthesizers, FXs, drum machines, Eurorack and his studio is own sanctuary ofcreation. 
Gustavo place emphasis on all crevices of the electronic music spectrum, which is reflected on side projects doing ambient and drone music and the sets he pieces together from his sound collection.
Now he comes forth with this huge set for us, proving once again why he is one to watch.

Threads Radio - July 2021 Part 1

Well it's not all from London I know, but like many a scene, London has often been a processing point for what's being generated elsewhere. In this case, very much courtesy of Frankfurt, Detroit, Rotterdam, New York and of course the UK itself. This is a fairly close recreation of the regular sets I played at VFM, Dead By Dawn, Eurobeat 2000, Institute Of Goa, Helter Skelter and various squat parties (Spiral Tribe, Bedlam) in and around London. Hard banging techno leading up to some of the decent first instances of gabba.  It's at a point where things were quickly splintering off from the highly successful UK Rave Hardcore sound of 92 and reconnecting with a harder updated version of what had previously been coming out of Detroit, Brooklyn, Belgium and Holland around 89/90/91. Looking back, though it seemed such a very separate sound from breakbeat hardcore, with the distance of time they were both very much shades of the same rave. Ah the memories….

Keith is a prolific producer that makes techno as Optic Nerve and electro as Alien FM. Even after three decades in the game Keith has a relentless drive to make new music. Most recently Optic Nerve released ‘Uncharted’ on Jeff Mills iconic Axis Records label. Keith has also found time recently to collaborate as K1 with another Detroit legend Gerald Donald from Dopplereffekt and also with Carl Finlow as CFKT.

For the very first time, we travel to the Austrian capital to welcome on board the one and only Xenia Nanou a.k.a. POLYXENE (@xenianogravity). A Greek artist based in Vienna who started out in the music universe as a sound engineer and soon became a thorough digger in her early years, was part of the platform @femdex, has her own monthly show on Movement Radio, and, all in all, has paved her way in the electronic scene evolving into one of the best electro DJ’s in this day and age. Her sets are a powerful blend of electro, IDM, and breaks skilfully combined which might escalate into acid or even techno making dancers go completely crazy. And this podcast is no exception. Node hails from West Yorkshire, UK although currently resides in the mountains of Japan. Alongside his long time friend Jadey they set up Gated Recordings back in 2019 to eagerly put out a variety of good music onto vinyl.
With some powerful early releases thanks to the likes of Simial, Sound Synthesis and Dopefist they were able to doggedly put out a wide range of music despite the world seemingly collapsing in on itself. 

For this mix he has provided a set of deep Electro alongside some nice Acid and a smattering of gritty Techno from some of the world's best producers. Garnished with a host of Gated releases, old and new. Plus forthcoming ones battling to get out of a very delayed production process mainly due to the aforementioned apparent "collapsing of society". Episode 19 is dedicated to Sci Fi Electro series, where each artist has created a 15 minute track per side (2 tracks in total), taking you from pure electro tracks to very experimental compositions, sounds and atmospheres. The series is a collection of seven releases inspired by the following films created in the 20th century: THX 1138, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, The Thing, Akira, Terminator and Tron. 
You will listen interpretations inspired by movies: THX 1138 (by Transpac) and Blade Runner (by Scape One). This is our tribute as well to the talented Greek electronic music artist - Vangelis (RIP), who has written music for Blade Runner movie. Bio & TL:

Maltese music artist Volph has graced the decks for the last 20 years. It all started as a duo under the A.I. alias, playing mostly old school electro and anything in between.

He's been producing tracks since 2016. His interest in synthesizers began in his childhood, with an early inspiration being Van Halen and Rush. As the Summer draws in, the music keeps flowing here at WE FORFEIT. For June, we have a label we love. We have @gatedrecordings. Founded in 2019 by Dj @node and Jadey Smith, Gated has become an imprint of serious intent in the world of electronic music. 

This month, we’ve been lucky enough to speak with one the bosses of Gated, Node, about the imprint and what makes him tick. In a conversation that reveals all, and then some, we go back through the Gated catalogue and pick out some personal favourties from artists like Sound Synthesis, The Jaffa Kid and Dip Shim

In the second hour, Node takes the helm with a mix of serious proportions with gems from acid, breakbeat, electro and loads more. Expect unreleased material as well as tracks from Acidulant, Cityman Productions,  and Wave Function.

After a wonderful subtropical day here in Amsterdam, we are here with the first artist of our 808-roster, this man was based in Manchester for many years but currently resides in Japan from where he co-runs the brilliant Gated Recordings aiming to release top-notch electronic music with an acid, electro and experimental undertone (you can check out the podcast series and the label in the links below).   

His mix for DUSK094 starts with some 4 by 4’s and continues, as he himself describes very poetically; “ into some darker, bass-heavy music, pulling apart the standard tropes, mixing in a little nostalgia, emotive touches and giving a few nods to some titans of the electronic scene such as Pearson Sound, Batu, James Shinra and Blawan. This is lightly peppered with newer talents that Gated is committed to releasing and supporting like The Jaffa Kid, Mazzo and uf0.”
