The first half rains down pixelated cascades of ambient techno, while the second introduces heavier textures with wriggling 303s pulling you through like cilia to the other side.

The 17th Virtual Utopia update has been created by Mexico-based sonic scientist Gerhard (@esenciamx) - A DJ  who’s sound has been immersed in a positive floating ambience that has always been a great inspiration to us here at the Dream Software corporation. Also known for being the head engineer of the Escensia blog and mix series- a constant emission of quality sine-wave based content with a trademark euphoric infusion.

A two-hour audible offering illustrating scenes of a utopian future. An existence imbued with hope and optimism where cooling airs and a warming sun remind us of the balance needed to exist in harmony here. Comforting pads and ethereal softness drift amongst the various genres and tempos that really make this mix a beautiful sonic landscape. We hope you enjoy it.

DJ Aficionado is a Berlin-based DJ and one of the brains behind Orbita, as well as a resident of Refuge Worldwide. Born in Barcelona and schooled by many blissful summers in Ibiza. His sets are easy-going, yet heady, happily unpredictable, and always engineered for maximum good times. He’s played far and wide, and while he’s definitely made a lot of people dance, he may—or may not—have moved someone to tears at the one and only Love International Festival (his best gig and favourite place in the world so far).

What are Euromatic Tales?
We embrace the multi-cultural heritage of the global dance music scene. From cosmic to US disco. From new beat to Chicago house.
Euromatic Tales is a German, Italian, Greek & Georgian co-production.
We don’t pre-record. The show will feature guests. We are serious about the fun: To our ears a set is not hysterical entertainment, but conveys a curated narrative.

If you wonder why The Sneaker goes down the reggae tip you might listen closely to the first half an hour where I felt reminded of Italo Disco synth hooks and - in the mid of the mix - digital house from the 80s (cheap samples, samplers and Casio keyboards).

Euro doesn't mean Eurocentric - rather the concious (and necessarily) "European view on".

In this case on Jamaica. Interestingly most of the dub-infused German-lyric examples in the latter part of the 2h-show predate the digital dancehall "version"s from Jamaica. So the narrative ain't that simple as "political correct" predators wish for.

Euromatic Tales | rub-a-dub special - All vinyl! w/ Sneaker DJ [01.12.25]

Islas aka Ailsa Cavers is the curious mind behind many projects. From co-creating the Basic Moves record label, PLANET collective and the pop-up shop objet petit a / op-a with Dana Kuehr, there's always something fizzing.

We first met back in 2016, bumping into both her and Walrus in Leeds' Wire, Distrikt and Tribe Records over the same weekend. After a few shared tales, we ended up back at an afters for a long mission of mixing records and sharing more stories from their digging trip around the UK.

Ailsa has since developed a potent and intriguing style behind the decks, sitting somewhere between wonky minimal and punky oddballs, right through to introspective ambient and atmospheric club tracks.

There's always been a fruitful connection between the crews for almost 10 years, and it's about time we showcased her sonics in this wicked pod. Strap in!

Oceanic is a DJ and producer known for creating immersive, boundary-blurring sound worlds, often released on Nous'klaer. His acclaimed 2023 debut Choral Feeling was composed almost entirely from the voices of 30+ friends. A former SHAPE artist, he continues his Garage Noord residency and collaborates with Greetje Bijma and Ensemble Klang, always seeking new ways to spark collective energy and joy.

A dubby, soulful mixtape.

I experimented with some new tricks for this one, such as peppering in some soulful vocal tracks, then applying adjustments to the pitch, adding dub echo’s, and trimming the high/lows to give those tracks a fresh loungey, dubbed out feel, as interludes. This touch gives the mix some slower movement, which I personally enjoy in my summer mixes. Hope you like it.
