Monumental Men

For the second year, it's an attempt to keep my best 2017 songs in a playlist. A pretty hard job to select about 200 songs out of over 1000 that I enjoyed this year. For the complete list, go to:

In the first places, are the songs that I played in a loop for days ...
Nabihah Iqbal's "zone 1 to 6000" has just incredibly strong lyrics, the synth, the beat and the spoken voice make this song roll and loop forever ...
Hard not to replay forever Caramello Xenoula, bass and voice synchronize so well.
"Breaking Bones" from Vok's latest album "Figure" is just the confirmation of this incredibly talented band. By the way, my favorite song of Vok's last album is "Polar".
There are many many excellent songs in the last album "Woodstock" of Portugal The Man, but "Live in the moment" is by far my favorite.
Not many songs from North Downs, but still extremely well built, I really hope for new pieces from them in 2018.
Aly Ryan does not have a parachute, but it's a perfect song.
Lupa J is a young talented singer & songwriter & recorder & producer from the southern hemisphere, I really like "Moth" a lot but all her latest EP "A House I Do not Remember" is awesome. ELKI is also from the southern hemisphere, "Beautiful Mess" is the worthy successor of the top 2016 songs "Thunder" and "Sirens". In the second half of "has to be better", when Goldmyth repeats that "If I'm gonna come back to you, It has to be better, has to be better" it's a bit like perpetual motion, aiming at the wish that the song will never stop. The two next songs share a guitar riff as intro and a band name full of A ! Patawawa and Alaskalaska ....   

From the 18 soundcloud plays of "2 sober days" by VIRGIN MARY PISTOL GRIP to the 6.83 million plays of "no parachute" by Aly Ryan, the 200 songs in this playlist have received a fairly diverse audience. It does not affect my choices, only music content matters.

Last winter, I had a friend give me a joke writing assignment. He told me to write a song with the word "potato" in it. I kept going back to this line I wrote ( which was in the original draft of the song). "We want steak with our potatoes. We want whiskey with our wine." The steak and potatoes line was stupid. But the idea that we want everything without knowing ever being satisfied stuck with me. I was going through a time when I wasn't really sure what I what I wanted to do with music as well as where I was going with my own relationships. I keep saying " everybody's lost" but I really just mean "I'm lost" haha.

This is the first original song that I've released that was produced by me! I'm trying to learn every day so any feedback might break me a little but is probably much needed :P
